All those fancy thin LCDs, Plasma TVs and DLPs, can still not come close to the color representation of good ol' glass tubes.

Color is not digital. Its analog, so its no wonder an analog system works better in terms of accurate color reproduction.
All other things being equal HDMI and HD-SDI will send a better signal than analog HD. How many people still use an analog connection between their computer and monitor? Each generation of LCD gets better so it's only a matter of time before LCDs equal, and eventually surpass, the quality of CRTs for critical monitoring.

Of course, if we're going to get into the nitty gritty you don't just need a CRT, you need high quality, properly calibrated CRT in color neutral room w/appropriate lighting.

? It was rated as 10/10, in perfect condition/ It doesn't say anywhere it is beat up...

I use a 15 inch CRT for My mini, I'm not going to get an LCD until I have too. I can't stand the horrible color and the fact that you "can't touch it"

Although you probably could've gotten a better deal...I see CRT's for cheap all the time on there.

Still, nice choice, I also have a 21 incher (Don't use it for my mini because it doesn't fit in my desk. :D)

You know what? You're right. I didn't read the description correctly.

Now The best ones seem to be the Mitsubishi range and the Sony? Which were the BEST or HIGH END models they made back in the day for the high end users?

Thanks

A Barco Reference Calibrator, way better than either the Sony or Mitsubishi. I'm still using one but I think you would be very hard pressed to find one anymore.

Every time I read a thread like this it makes me think...

I've had the same CRT (Viewsonic p220f 22" 1600x1200 @ 85Hz) for the past 4.5 years...I've wanted a bigger monitor...ever since they came out (think 30" acd) but the 'quality' is supposed to be so much better on my CRT for colours...that I keep 'delaying till the LCD's get better' and in the mean time I figure I'll keep using this thing till it dies.

At the end of its 3 year warranty it started doing the turn off/on thing and I had it fixed under warranty. Since then (1.5years roughly) I've had no problems...but I would like 2560x1600...

The fact that the thing is 80+lbs has left a big dent in my desk and I have it in the corner with the desk pulled away from the wall...table I should say...I couldn't find a desk big enough so I ended up using tables to make an L desk for myself (Keyboard makes it a U desk).

Bleh...Oh well for now I'll keep waiting and watch things get better and better.

The Dell P1130 is probably the best 21" CRT ever made.

Seriously, my step mother owned one, and using it was a treat on my eyes.

I'm looking to buy two of them to replace my two IBM P97 19"ers, as the right one is getting a green tint as its slowly dying.

Espically with the Dell, the 2 VGA ports and input selection switch, plus then the 2048x1536 resolution at 85 Hz seals the deal.

Ya mean that? I went ahead and got that Dell and I'm on it now. I find it a tad harsh on my eyes, prolly owing to size as I've just moved from 17" to this 21" beastie.

Though I've noticed a lack of mid tone range. Is this one a bad example?

After always using LCDs on my PowerBook and iMac, I find it refreshing to use a good CRT with my G4 Tower:

I picked it up for $50.... Granted, it's an ADC connector... So that limits its appeal if you aren't using a G4 tower, but still, gotta love 1600x1200 in perfect, crisp color that most LCDs can't touch!!

Trust me, I went from 13" to 21" once; my eyes hated me for a week.
