If anyone is looking for the 256GB Crucial M4 SSD, it's on sale at TigerDirect for $179.99 and free shipping. I got mine a few months ago from Amazon and it's been great. Just ordered one from TigerDirect to breath some new life into hubby's late 2008 MBP.

I also have late 2008, do you think SATAIII would work well on that model? I ordered intel320 series 160GB STATII but I can still return it. I wasn't sure if SATAIII SSD would work well on SATAII machine.

That will work. SATA is backwards compatible.

Thanks for the tip. For sure, the price is right.

Is it bad or good to use it naked without any enclosure as external hard drive? All because i ordered the seagate thunderbolt adapter. :)

Glad this helped a few people!

I've been checking prices every day because they bounce around so much. When I ordered mine a couple months ago, I paid $239 from Amazon. Then the next day it dropped to $199, stayed there for less than a day and then went back up again. It's crazy how fast they change. I'm glad I got a good deal, and I think hubby will be happy with it for his birthday present.

I saw the ad in my email this morning. Impulsed purchased it for my Mac Pro 2008, since the 240GB drive I have in there is nearly full. I'm going to dedicate it to my home directory, and leave the 1+ year old OWC drive as my boot drive.

I bought the 512GB drive a month ago for my MBP, and since it seems to be working well, I went with the same one again, just smaller.

i paid $214 about a month ago on NewEgg. Im so glad to see these things coming down, ill buy a mini when it is inevitably updated and throw an SSD in.

Im thinking Thanksgiving deals of sub $150 for a 256GB are not unrealistic.

If you live next to a Micro Center they are also selling them for 179$.

i bought one about 10 days ago and its been amazing. I didn't think I could get a good 256GB SSD for that price but they had them.

They also had the 512Gb version for 399$ which is a pretty decent deal too.

Thank you very much for posting this! I just bought the drive and 8GB of ram. Pumped to give my MacBook new life for only $225 !

This morning when I ordered the Amazon price was $10 higher. I cancelled my order through them and told them it was cheaper at Tiger Direct. :)

Next time this happens, try doing an online chat with an Amazon rep. They're always helpful and would have definitely dropped the price down for you :)
