Why do Cruises confiscate extra electrical plug adapters ?

I know they already do extension cords or power surge protectors.

I've been on 4 different cruise lines and so far none have ever confiscated any of my electrical / power if I bring it. Weird.

But usually it's just a small power squid to charge things, never a full powerbar or anything larger. Could be that the ship has specific power limit draws to each stateroom.

however, going on cruise? My recommendation? Pack light for electronics and enjoy yourself as much as you can disconnected.

Every cruise I’ve ever been in (Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity) have had both standard American 110v and continental Europe outlets. I know several times my parents have used adapters to utilize more outlets and never had them confiscated. I’ve never tried to bring an extension cord or power strip on board.

Ive heard the ban on power strips has something to do with how built in surge protectors (often in power strips) operate and the unstable characteristics of boats power systems risking the surge protectors catching on fire. I’d imagine power draw might be another concern for the ships.

What do you mean? I’ve not had extra electrical plug adapters confiscated on a cruise. I’ve been on 2 lines, Disney and Viking.
