Just stepped up from a stepped up from a PowerMac G4 Dual Optical to a mac pro...

I was using CS2 for a long time and have got by on it no problem, but I guess it's time to step up to CS3 or CS4, but I just don't have the money right now!

I know that CS2 was pacifically made for Power Mac PC.

    So, two questions:
I was wondering if anyone has tried CS2 on a Mac Intel Xeon and what's been your experience?
And am I wasting my time installing CS2 into a Mac Pro for the time being?

Sorry if it's been asked before, but any advice would be greatly appreciated...

It works fine. It just takes a bit longer to start up and filters take a bit longer.

It'll probably be faster than your G4 anyway, even under Rosetta, because of the power of the Pro.

Getting a cheaper/refurb Mac Pro and CS4 would have been a better idea than just getting a newer Mac Pro and using CS2. Yes, it will still be faster than on your G4, but it will be much slower than CS3/4 and it will be unreliable. Apart from that the 8 x 2,26 ghz Mac Pro was a bad choice, the 4 x 2,66 ghz one would actually have been faster for you, because even CS4 won't really use multiple cores.

Tbh, I think all these benchmarks will change once Snow Leopard and even CS5 comes out due to the new architecture....

But thanks for your input guys, I feel comfortable to install it now, with your sound advice, you have helped me a great deal with your prompt reply....

    ;)
