I recently completed an Adobe survey regarding their new product line up (not sure if this was confidential.. I will start a Dear Adobe, sorry for my disregard to your privacy letter now). I have typed up the things that I saw that were interesting... fingers got tired (the content was displayed as images, couldn't copy and paste) and the excitement started to dwindle. All the software is getting enhancements but some updates didn't sound as exciting as others. Photoshop seems to be the biggest upgrade, that and the new interfaces for Flash and Dreamweaver. I think the most exciting aspects are the QuickTime, animation and 3D support included in Photoshop Professional.

Photoshop CS3 Advanced
Photoshop CS3 Advanced takes the industry standard in digital imaging to a new level, with enhanced capabilities for the most demanding and specialized images. Photoshop CS3 Advanced adds a rich set of new tools and features that can handle precise image analysis, complex visualization, and intricate motion graphics, especially for those professionals who require capabilities beyond traditional digital imaging.

Photoshop CS3 Advanced gives you all the features in Photoshop CS3, plus more:
VANISHING POINT 2: Next-generation, perspective-based editing with enhanced Vanishing Point, letting you paint and wrap objects onto multiple surfaces, measure distances and export both images and measurements to CAD applications.

HDR Support: Advanced 32-bit High Dynamic Range (HDR) support for the maximum image fidelity–now including painting and layer support.

MEASUREMENT: Get more information from your images: establish scale within an image, measure distance and statistical values, and export data to a spreadsheet program. Get manual and automated counts of individual features within images.

ROTOSCOPING: Comprehensive, easier animation development, with new rotoscoping features, including the ability to import QuickTime Video and image sequences, and paint cells over time with the help of the advanced Animation palette.

FAST FOURIER TRANSFORM FILTER: CRemove pattern noise like moire patterns.

DICOM SUPPORT: Work in native DICOM (Medical Image) format. Open DICOM file, create animation from individual frames, or place frames as layers for editing, annotation, and measurement.

MATLAB INTEGRATION: Access Products directly from the MATLAB command line. Get pixels from Product B, run MATLAB algorithms, and place the pixels back in Product B to see the results visually, including ICC profiles.

3D FILE SUPPORT: Open, rotate, and place 3D file formats such as Maya, 3D Studio Max, and U#D (Acrobat 3D format) as a smart object. Edit textures in Photoshop and reapply to model.

Other features (bold = CS3 Advanced only):

Microsoft Expression
This looks like it is a anybody can design design application including Microsoft Expression Graphic Designer, Interactive Designer, and Web Designer... I felt sick to my stomach reading about this crap.

General requirements for design and web apps
Power PC G4, G5, Intel-based Macs, Windows - Intel Pentium 4 or later, Centrino
RAM 512MB (1GB recommended)
4GB hard disk space for installation
1024x768 monitor resolution

video apps
Intel-based macs (no G4, G5 support), Windows - Intel Pentium 4.1.4 GHz processor
Same RAM requirements as other software
21 GB of drive sapce
same monitor resolution as other apps

Other noted observations
Freehand, Director, Image Ready and GoLIve are not listed in new product line up. Premiere Pro is coming back to the mac along with a new video bundle. Also a new All Media bundle which includes all their production software will be offered.

Again, sorry Adobe if this was confidential but I was so excited that I had to share it with the world (slight exaggeration on the level of excitement)!

They did not specify if the video app requirements were for just Premier and AE. The info that they provided was for their video bundle package so it could be assumed that it does include AE... Also they only discussed AE Pro but I doubt that would make lesser requirements for the non Pro seeing how it is just the dongle and serial number that dictate Pro.. correct me if I am wrong on that one.

As for PS.. I am wicked excited that we are getting animation abilities.. something that Painter has had for how long now?
