I'm wondering how custom iMacs are made? Are they pulled from already made stock then open to add custom pieces or are they made from scratch to user specifications?

They're made to order in the assembly line, thats why they ship from China as opposed to from the US from the stockpile of the standard tier machines.

They are made from scratch and to order, hence the build time/delay for shipping.
