I was wondering what is the equivalent of the current 2.93 12 Core machine compared to anything from Dell or HP. Ofcourse comparing the Price and Specs & upgradeability options !!

I would like to know where the Current Mac Pros stands.
Thanks in advance,.

The 2.93GHz Xeon X5670 was replaced by the 3.06GHz X5675 in Intel's line-up and Dell and HP now use that. You can get options to use 3.46GHz processors. They always had more memory slots available. They ship with workstation graphics cards, but you can use whatever you want. Both support SAS and have same number of internal 3.5" drive bays. Dell and HP cost a bit more if you were to just order through their online stores, you can get them for less than Apple want though.

Really? When I look at the Apple Store online, the highest clock-cycle 12-core processor available is still the 2.93GHz one. Where are you seeing the 3.06 one?

Go online a price a the Dell Zeons. They have a couple models, one which is not too far away from Mac Pro prices but doesn't seem as nice unless you're primarily going to be running Windows and want to avoid the Mac Pro's limitations

I did customize some of the dells but they all seem to be as much as or even more pricey than the current Mac Pros, well if you overlook the fact that it could take a better graphics card than on the Mac pros.

Wasnt there some news about the new graphic card support coming to Mac Pros recently ?

Similar Dell Dual Xeons are around $4600.00+. But the case remains plastic:(
The price on Dual Xeons even at cost is very high. Over 1000.00 each proc + the special dual socket boards. They rape you on dual QPI.

If only there were better graphics options available out there, other than using the PC versions i mean, the Mac Pros still are kick ass machines considering the competition !!
