With new phones on the horizon, just looking for some input from Plus owners on the current state of apps. Have many developers introduced Plus-optimized landscape orientations in their apps? This always seemed like a promising idea with Apple seemingly phasing out the iPad Mini line, however I haven’t heard/read much about it and the last I checked there were not many developers interested in expanding implementation.

And any rumors as to whether the new “iPhone 8” will support landscape orientations like the current Plus models? (e.g., landscape home screen)

Very few, if any, apps are actually specifically optimised / designed for the plus model. Most developers just support the default native implementation which means scaling the original size up to fit the bigger screen. Only actual benefit of the bigger screen is while watching video content and browsing as far as I can tell.

I’m hoping the new iPhone supports landscape home screen orientation, as the Plus models do.

I prefer using some apps in landscape mode (particularly when in my car, such as GPS) and the inability of the non-Plus iPhone home screen to handle that orientation is baffling to me.

It's all about money, companies will need money to hire UI designer and some just won't care. I believe the first few apps that might be updated to the iPhone 8 screen will be Facebook, Instagram.

Even my bank app took a year to update to the iPhone 6 4.7" profile ..... And it was a big bank (with a lot of money)

It comes down to user statistics and habits. People just don't use phones in landscape orientation enough for companies to spend time, effort & money to design specifically for bigger size phones. Sticking to a tablet & phone strategy works better.

I don't have the best eyesight, so a properly designed app that fits well in landscape mode for my 6s+ is very nice. I can't tell you how sick and tired I am of downloading and app and discovering it's was meant to look OK only in portrait mode.

Heck, Facebook still hasn't updated the iPad app so that it looks correct on the 12.9 iPad Pro...and Facebook updates their app every two weeks.

I know we're talking iPhones here but this shows how little the app developers, even one as HUGE as Facebook, actually care about this sort of thing.

There are so many bugs related to the plus size model it's comical.

For example, randomly, the home screen will become locked on landscape mode, or just randomly flip.

So it sounds like I shouldn’t rely on the new iPhone or Plus models to replicate/replace the landscape-related features I enjoy on my current iPad Mini.

Thanks for the input!
