On the Macbook Neo there is a stutter / lag when quickly moving the cursor from the center of the screen to the outer edges. This occurs no matter the direction you move the cursor. It's most obvious when navigating to the Dock to open / switch applications. I have seen reports on Reddit and in another thread on this forum but I wanted to start a new thread to see who else is noticing this.

The post on Reddit mentions a temporary workaround by enabling the Blue/Yellow filter (Tritanopia) in Settings > Accessibility > Display. This did work initially but I'm noticing the issue again. I have toggled the filter multiple times and now nothing seems to be working. Also, even with the filter on the lowest setting it is clearing changing the color of the screen which is not ideal.

I've been using my Neo daily for the last two weeks and haven't noticed anything like this. I even doubted myself and just went and tested the theory and I see no lag or stutter when moving my cursor. I have the 512K version (Blush if that matters).

Same. Testing now. Can’t replicate. OP you have all default settings? How many virtual desktops?

I'm not using any virtual desktops and the memory pressure is fine. I went in to BestBuy and tested the two Neo's that were on display and both exhibited the same behavior.

Interestingly, it doesn't happen right after waking the machine. It starts to happen about 30 seconds later. It definitely seems like a software bug so I'm hoping Apple releases an update soon that addresses it.

Are you saying it continues to happen as you use it? I've been on my Neo for 3+ hours now since I got home from work and I'm not seeing that behavior. Everything works smoothly, no lag, no stutter. I've been watching videos, reading emails, doing web searches. Normal casual computing and no issues whatsoever.

That was actually one of the first things I’ve noticed on my 256Gb silver model. I’ve had it only for two days and will try to use it more in the next week just to see how much it bothers me. You’re definitely not alone. There are also a few reddit threads on this issue as well. Some people say it could be due to indexing, others say that it’s a software issue. It’s really hard to tell at this point due to the fact that the Neo is a fresh and completely new device in the pipeline. The fist issue I’ve encountered was actually a trackpad issue. In the bottom right corner it would slightly click even tough I was just barely touching it. If you press a little harder on the bottom of the trackpad the issue somehow resolves. I guess it’s just the nature of mechanical trackpads. This is not a haptic one and I knew that from the start so I put my expectations accordingly. You can’t do magic stuff here. Otherwise I find the Neo experinece quite nice actually. I vastly prefer white keys than black ones (not having a shiny keys syndrome feels like a breath of fresh air!). I thought that screen would be a problem and guess what … it’s a great screen all things considered and I’m coming from a Tandem OLED on my 13” M5 iPP. However, I digress.

I would say just give this thing its time and a chance. It’s a 1st gen product. It will only get better. What Neo is teaching me so far is the fact that I’ve never really needed anything more than that in a mac. And experiencing its keyboard is making me thinking about how a white magic keyboard for new iPP’s could work for me.

Wish you all the best folks! Enjoy the brave new world :—)
