All I want is a simple way to disable app text below each icon. I’m well aware of what each app is!
Yes me too, or even customise the labels. I find it annoying companies that insist their brand must be in a title, I’d like to be able to remove it.

Johnny don't work there no more.Someone at Apple is bullying Sir. Johnny.
Do you think this has to do with Ives departure? At least in this case it seems he wouldn't have liked the idea of custom icons.Wow I'm actually surprised Apple made this change lol. They're doing a better job listening lately.
Well custom app icons like what widgetsmith is doing was technically possible since Apple released Siri Shortcuts in iOS 12, while Jony was still thereDo you think this has to do with Ives departure? At least in this case it seems he wouldn't have liked the idea of custom icons.
Same here, no text is already working on the icons located within the dock, let it happen where we want. Then let us arrange icons, and widgets a little bit more freely instead of having them stuck one next to the other ones, then disable that banner ... man I'm getting ahead of myself. All I want is a simple way to disable app text below each icon. Let me rephrase. Why is it that user aren't given a native option to create a shortcut (alias) with its own icon? Why does it require using an intermediary app?Who said it can’t?
Still 'feels' messy to me.
Any developer can add extra icons to their iOS app for us to choose from.
And let's fact it, most of us just want a black/grey version.
Telegram, Bear, and many others offer built-in alternate icons.
If your app has no alternate icons in 2020 then you look old.
Just like developers who failed to add dark mode, a couple of years back.
(And if you don't have dark mode in 2020, you really are past it).
* Sidenote, don't be like 1Pass and offer two near-identical icons.

Apple likes to test the waters before they open the floodgates, we had widgets in IOS 4. It just took multiple years for it to reach the Home Screen. This is great and all but one has to wonder why Apple didn't do this in the first place when they introduced icon customization for shortcuts or heck just make it even easier allowing users to change icons at the app level. Does Apple even do any usability testing at all?

You can use Icon Themer to get rid of the banner and make it fully seamless. Even works for system apps since iOS 14.3 beta 1.
I don’t want to have to use shortcuts and work arounds. That banner would annoy the crap out of me.You can do this with icon themer
