An octopus's garden
I just sold a mac on ebay (hurrah!) and was wondering if there is a way I could install updates, iLife, and neo-office, and still have the computer set so that when the buyer switches on the computer, he still gets the little video screen and set up prompts. I remember way back when at my former company the tech team making up a custom install disk so that they could install everything they needed to onto however many computers without having to install each program individually on each computer..

Thanks!

I too would like to know if this is possible - if one can somehow slipstream the 10.4.8 combo update into an original 10.4.0 DVD image along with all the QT/iLife updates.

In the developer tools, there is a PKG Creator, which you could use to create your own custom installer disc.

On the install disc, there is a file called OSinstall.mpkg which is a single package that links to all of the other package files on the disc.

If you were to recreate a package file of the same name and put it in place of the same file on the DVD, you would be able to add your own programs to the installation process.

The real problem that you would run into would be storage space. iLife and iWork are some pretty big apps...

I personally am much more a fan of creating an installation image (install on one system, configure as you like plus updates and any additional software, create a complete HD Restore Image through Disk Utility) and then deploy that through either a stripped installation disc + the disc image, a normal installation disc + external hd, or netboot + server.
