I have and idea to save power for the iPhone 3g.

You have the 3g switched off while the phone is locked or not looking at a program that acceses remote data. when the program requests some data then the 3g can switch on. This mean that the 3g is off for most of the time the phone is on and thus save alot of power.

the same can be used for the location service and wifi.

is this possible or worth while?

Switching on 3G doesn't happen as fast as turning on wifi or location services. The lag would be terrible waiting for the phone to pick up a 3G signal upon request.

Besides, we shouldn't have to resort to these crazy power saving tactics to make the phone last all day.

What I would like to see is an optional revised back cover that allows a bigger battery to be installed. Let's go straight to the source of the problem. An extended battery would solve a lot of problems. I would happily sacrifice a little thickness in exchange for a larger battery.

Apple knew 3G, push technology, and GPS are/were battery hogs. Put in a bigger battery to compensate.

I hear rumors that Apple put a smaller battery in the iPhone 3G. If this turns out to be true, what a huge mistake on Apple's part.
