Custom Ringtones

Hi everyone wondering if you can help.
I can get all of my custom ringtones onto my Iphone x no problem, and can actually play them in sounds/haptics. However the ringtone will not play when i receive a call, it just defaults back to the apple installed tone even though my custom tone is ticked. The funny thing is all my custom tones for email and message work fine. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Is it the same ringtone for phone as it is for email and messaging? if not have you tried using one of the email ones for calls? If that works then might be a problem with tone. What have you tried

Do you have the default ringtone set for individual contacts possibly?

...have you tried using one of the email ones for calls? If that works then might be a problem with tone.

Had same issue happen on iOS 9 or 10 and with Reminders. Same as OP: plays fine when tapped on in Sounds, but just never worked when Reminder alerted. Created a new version of same tone, different name, and synced and used that tone going forward with no issue.
