It might be because you're using a debit card and not a credit card... I think usually they issue a pending charge / authorization, and it remains pending. It should be refunded as soon as they receive the battery, in any event, though.

.

Lots of places do things like this, including gas stations. They basically block out a set amount of money so you can't overdraw and be like "lol not paying"

I have returned two macbook batteries to Apple in the past year. Both macbooks were not under the one year warranty. They were both replaced under Apple's battery update guidelines. The last battery I exchange was done yesterday and the new battery is here today. I checked my Visa account online and there is no $129 pre-charge and I have not sent the old battery back yet. The old battery will be sent back tomorrow. The Apple rep stated there would only be a CC charge if the old battery was not returned.

You've been cheated by apple. That is completely wrong of them to charge you and you should have no problem getting that refunded. However, I'm sure that it was just a little mistake and wasn't intentional...

LMAO. Apple didnt do anything wrong. It`s been already explained in this thread. I`ll repeat it for you. It`s only coz of debit card. If the OP had used a credit card no such charge would have appeared on his account. The point of debit cards is that you cant withdraw more than what you already have in your account. What if the customer withdraws all the money from his debit card bank account as soon as he receives the new battery from Apple. Visa will not pay apple once this happens. So either Apple or Visa charged the account temporarily until apple confirms the receipt of the old battery.

I can guarantee you that Apple will refund the money as soon as they receive that battery.

That's a very good guarantee; can I get the same guarantee. JK ;). I do believe you are right and the debit card is the main issue. Apple has been more than good to me on the battery exchange.

A pending hold doesn't show on your online account as a transaction. The reason being that it has not been posted as a charge. I have been in retail banking for the past 18 years and I know how this works. American Express cards show a hold, but neither Visa or Master Card post their credit block holds to the account whilst it is active. However, next time you check into a hotel for several days, check your Visa card online. You will see the holds after the second day as it is posted for those types of holds.
As has been previously posted, a debit card by its very nature must charge your account with a hold since the card is tied to a transactional account. I NEVER use my debit card to make reservations or any type of transaction that would result in a hold. I keep so little cash in my checking account that it could easily result in an overdraft position, which is a huge no no in my line of work.

Actually, if I could, I'd change my thread title as it was probably a wee bit hasty.

Okay, go back up to your original post. Click on "edit" - then click on "go advanced" - then change your thread title - then click on "save changes" - and your thread title will be (magically) changed! :)

BTW, you do not need to supply a "reason for editing" unless you want to.
