I understand that one of the main selling points of ios was and has been its simplicity. However - that is also one of its main points of frustration. Could Apple not find a middle ground?

As an example, I had a Galaxy Note 3 for a while. I was delighted to be able to have an icon on my home screen for the messaging app I use with my wife. One touch and I can get to our conversation.

I also don't want to check the side of my phone to see if it is in silent mode - on the Note - I could glance and see an icon next to the other tiny icons at the top (battery level etc).

Now that smartphomes are ubiquitous, is it only me who would like to see Apple introduce a greater level of customization with my iphone?

So pickling up your phone and activating your screen to check whether the phone is on silent is easier than simply touching the side of the iPhone with a finger to note the position of the switch? I think that just boils down to what you are used to doing, but to me, the iPhone way is much simpler and quicker.

As for the other aspect of a shortcut on the screen for your chat option, the standard iOS way is perhaps one or two touches more but there are other options. Might be worth checking out the Workflow app, sounds like it will allow you to do what you want

Check out the app below. It allows you to add "shortcuts" to people in the notification center.
