Customizing the OS X icons: Great Application folder icon?

Can someone explain changing the icons the "get info" way?

Lets say you want to change a folder icon...

1. Select the icon you want to change your folder to (on the desktop or in a folder).
2. Choose "Get Info" from the File Menu, or click command-I.
3. Click on the icon in the upper left of the info window.
4. Choose "Copy" from the Edit menu (or type command-C).
5. Select your folder on the desktop and "Get Info" for it.
6. Click on the icon in the upper left of the info window.
7. Select "Paste" (command-V) from the Edit Menu.

And that should sort it.

All you have to do is bring up the 'Get Info' window, select the icon and then press delete. That should restore the original icon

Besides Candybar, Shapeshifter can be used for system-wide icon changing, not to mention changing themes.

I have a question about actually using the icon pictures. I downloaded a few different sets that i liked from the IconFactory and i unstuffed them and then when i went to look at the pictures in each pack there was only a few pictures but when i opened them, i couldn't see anything. How do i do this?

You probably have to get permissions to do it, which is why it's just easier to use CandyBar for this sort of thing. I highly recommend it.

Don't open them, there is nothing inside icon files. Select the one you want and then press command-i (or go to file/get info) and copy and paste from there, as explained in other posts on this thread
