So I'm trying to find tutorials and stuff to explain to me how to customize the looks of things (slider, icons, status bar stuff, etc) without the use of WinterBoard, and I've yet to find any valid ones as all the ones I've stumbled upon are pre-2009 and all require the package "Customize" (which I believe to be no longer in existence?). Can anybody hook me up with some links or anything?

P.S. Don't sit here and flame me and tell me how great WinterBoard is, I'm already aware it is, I'm just trying to opt for best performance, and have plenty of time to customize myself. I just need to gain an understanding of how to, first.

    Thank you in advance.

basically you go into your phone via ssh or other methods find the icon.png for all the app and change them 1 by 1 while at the same time making sure the one you subsituting is the EXACT same size and specification.

some part of the phone u just can't theme without winterboard so that depends on how deep you want to take things. just switching out icons should be fine.

Also be aware that changing some app's icon this way can interfere with its ability to update properly

you should google mac themes and go over their forum, lots of premade themes and instruction to change everything that can be change on the phone

I've changed nearly everything on my 3G without winterboard. You can change the stock app icons fine, but app store apps will have a slight shadow that looks different. I've also changed SMS bubbles, SMS tones, the dock, battery...other things u can change with bosspaper.

i spent this past weekend tweaking my iph4 and manage to get a few things down.
-changing slider, fonts, battery image, folder backgrounds, icons, uisounds, haptic feedback

Mainly u need to ssh into system folder and manually replace the files.
You can easily google/youtube where these files are located. The hard part is finding images that are compatible with iphone4 since it uses different resolution.
