Just bought a new alu 2.0 MB - my first Mac.

One thing that's really concerned me is that I can't Cut files. The cut command is grayed-out in the edit menu, doesn't appear in the contextual menu, and the keyboard shortcut doesn't work. I can copy, paste and delete fine.

Halp plz?

(oh and btw, the new trackpad+4-finger gestures is simply amazing).

you're not missing anything. you can't "cut" files in finder.

i believe it's a safety measure, ie. what if you were to cut files and forget to paste them.

you can move files by dragging, you just can't use the edit/cut or cut keyboard shortcut.

I've been on Mac's for 10 years now, and it's not something that you'll miss after a while. 🙂

If you do a lot of moving files around, maybe "Pathfinder" or "Forklift" are worth trying.

There is an interesting discussion here - http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=9419 about the lack of "cut" in the finder. It may even have some alternatives for you.
