here is a silly one for you guys, almost embraced to ask...
for some reason I can not "cut" files in finder any more, I have to copy and paste.... any idea how to resolve that?
    Thanks

    Still works for me.
Select the files to be copied/moved and press "CMD+C". Go to the target folder and press "ALT+CMD+V" to move the files instead of copying them.

Surely ipollak meant "cut" instead of "copy"? Shouldn't we be able to CUT files and copy - ie remove them from one folder and replace them in another? Rather than creating duplicates everywhere, as Finder seems only to offer "copy" as an option?

There is no "cut" for files in Finder. There is copy (cmd-c), then paste (cmd-v) or move (cmd-alt-v).
