Right now, I'd pay $185 just to watch an AT&T executive get hit in the face with a frying pan.
The decision to even "lock" a device you have to sign a contract for in the first place is only done to hurt people, and therefore is evil. It's illegal in other countries, but perfectly accepted in the US???
What does it cost? Up front cost for the phone, then a 2-year contract ($40+ a month), with a data package "required" ($20+ a month, even though the device works just fine without one).
Evil is a stretch - it's pretty good business... but I do feel it should be reviewed legally. Not saying I like it. I hate it and feel like it's a horrible way to value your customer.
That business.
Now...
Granted you never said you own or have purchased an iPhone... but I still feel like the following few lines are applicable.
Hurting people? Evil? If you can afford an iPhone and actually go through and buy one, then I strongly feel that with all the poverty, suffering, death, famine, starvation, human trafficking, slavery, sex exploitation, etc in the world you have very little room to throw around words like 'evil' in reference to a luxury electronic device.
For the cost of your iPhone and your data plan you could feed 100+ starving children somewhere... but your pissed about your iPhone. Granted, it's not fair to make that comparison (apples to oranges really), however, it is true.. and applicable when words like 'evil' and 'hurting people' are used.
Bottom line is anyone who purchases an iPhone signed a contract stating that they understood the costs associated with it and were willing to pay for a luxury service with a luxury product. At what point did you decide to call it evil? iPhone purchasers sign the contract... maybe they should read better or learn some basic math.
Seriously, pick a different sword to fall on and a touch of perspective probably wouldn't hurt you either.
