cutting audio in final cut express

Help!
I'm trying to edit some audio in FCE, using the razor blade tool. It's snapping automatically to the preset time dividers along the top of the sequence. I need to edit more precisely than this but can't get it to let me just cut where I want to. I have tried turning "snapping" off, but it makes no difference.

Any advice would be most welcome!
