My twitter convo with CutYourSim:

@CutYourSim First batch has been emailed, please check email. If you did not get email, then that means yours has not been processed yet

Me: I purchased this morning at 9am 4/12/11. When should I receive the unlock? What batch will I be in?

@CutYourSim you should receive it by tomorrow noon

@CutYourSim When order is shipped, that means it's been submitted to unlock queue. When it shows delivered then that means your phone should be ready.

I got a noticed my unlocked shipped so that means I am in the unlock queue. I'll synch in the morning to see if I get the iTunes unlock notice. From following twitter they are most def legit!!!

This is awesome...

I might actually buy this... :D

Won't Apple just close this hole and de-whitelist all of these rogue entries? Is this why the companies offering the unlocks aren't offering a money back guarantee if your phone gets relocked?

Exactly what I'm thinking. Curious to see what happens and it's def too early an too expensive for me to give it a try.

Apple can't do anything about it. In some countries it is law that carriers have to unlock phones should their clients request it. Those carriers even have to be able to unlock phones that aren't on, or weren't even bought through, that carrier (even for phones from different countries). There is no reason why you can't be in one of those countries right now, asking them to unlock your phone. It is entirely legal for you to do so, and entirely legal for that carrier to unlock your phone.

What this service does is just prevent you from making the trip all the way to that country. Basically the 170$ charge is partly to pay for the official unlock through said carrier, and partly to pay the guy who uses that carrier's service to do the unlock for you.

However that is not the way it works at least for the iPhone. I have a U.S. AT&T iPhone that can only be unlocked by AT&T through Apple. Any other cell carrier in the world does not have the capability to unlock an AT&T iPhone. Otherwise A LOT more people would have bought their AT&T locked iPhone in the U.S. (cheaper) and taken it back home to their home country. Only AT&T can do that, and now apparently these other guys.

Why now? I read on a related forum that this has to do with the private key being found that is used in AirPlay. Anyone know anything about this?

The way it looks right now the other sites are legit and CutYourSim is a scam. It has been DAYS and I still have not been unlocked. I am requesting a refund. If I do not receive one I will peruse legal action through my credit card company.

Doubt you can pursue legal action but a chargeback is definitely worth a try.

Love how people always throw out the legal action comment. You watch too much TV.

Can you afford a lawyer? Would they even take the case for something as stupid as this? I doubt it. They sure as hell ain't working for free for a portion of your big settlement.

I think a chargeback would settle the issue effectively.

I don't need to afford an attorney. My Mother and 2 of my sisters are attorneys. So yeah, they work for me for free!

Ordered from Cutyoursim.com Tuesday. Yeah they were slow, but they are legit!

Did you just make this up as you went along. No carier has any legal obligation to unlock any phone, iphone or otherwise that it did not sell to operate on its network.

Unlock Successful

I'd like to announce that my iPhone 4 runninng iOS 4.3.1 Jailbroken on Baseband 4.10.01 has been successfully unlocked my CutYourSim.com.

I purchased my unlock on Tuesday, April 12. It is now Saturday, April 16.

Good, good.

To test I used SAM from Cydia to deactivate my phone then connected to iTunes. It contacted the activation server and reactivated unlocked. I also tested a restore to 4.3.1 firmware and jailbreak, still activated unlocked! :)

Picked up a SIM to test unlock. :)

I'm confused. you didn't actually need the unlock? You had to go out and buy another SIM card just to test it?
I was locked to AT&T and yes I NEED the unlock. I travel internationally and I want to use my phone when I travel and swap to a local SIM. It's like people here forget some people leave this country. :p

Exactly. I don't travel outside North America frequently but when I do, I want the damn thing unlocked so I can purchase a local SIM instead of getting bit for ridiculous roaming bills. Hence why even when AT&T absorbs T-Mobile (and they will) having an unlocked GSM phone will still be a valuable asset.

Some former iphone 3 jail break sim card maker produced one for iphone 4 and apparently they sold over $1,000,000 worth of them in the 1st week. The group named their iPhone 3 card Rebel not sure what their iPhone 4 version is called but it is the biggest thing happening in China as far as iphone 4 goes.

You must be referring to the 'Rebel SIM' they are selling a version for iPhone 4. Haven't gotten any reports in here from anyone using it yet. It is pricey, about $80 or better. With the Gevey's going for pennies (relatively speaking) I'm not sure how popular they will be long-term.
