Now I have to laugh at some posts when re-reading this thread.

So it's not OK that some retailers are choosing to work towards eschewing bank fees to increase profits. But it's OK for Apple to take a % of every transaction through Apple Pay to increase their profits.

Forget about the security argument for a second. Because at the end of the day - these corporations are about profits.

But you can't just forget about the security argument. That's the whole point of a system like Apple Pay.

So they figured out how to make some money off it (likely a drop in the bucket compared to other sources of income)?

If one company makes their money off of selling my info to marketers and bypassing CC fees they've paid for decades, while another company makes money by offering the most secure, simple payment method available I'm just supposed to IGNORE everything in that statement except for "One company makes money, another company makes money"?

Walmart & Target aren't going to go out of business from Apple pay & NFC issue, but the bean counters will not be happy losing customers due to limiting payment options!
I have NEVER seen anyone walk out of a store because they don't accept a specific method of payment.
They ALWAYS use the method accepted and pay.

Only exception is cash. There's a few small businesses were I live that only ACCEPT cash.
They do have cash machine available if needed.

I think the Apple zealots will be the first in history to walk away when they have a means to pay in their pocket believing they are making an impact on sales.

What is the percentage of people who became victims of stolen CC information or CC/bank breach?

1%, 2%, 3% of the population?

*I'm not talking about a breach of security that is rectified but those who actually had their bank/CC compromised that affected their accounts.

Apple is just banking on fear mongering & it appears some have bought in to it so much they believe they should use no other means of payment other than AP.

Amex customers are well known to walk away, especially those with corporate Amex cards for expenses.

As for security, credit card companies take care of you so even insecure magstripe cards are safe to use. What is scary, and what you SHOULDN'T use, is CurrentC.

Has anyone here actually looked to see how Paydiant, the people behind CurrentC, use their technology?

Here's a promotional video:

Paydiant Mobile Wallet

Also watch one from the merchant's point of view:

Paydiant Mobile Wallet - Moxie Boutique Retailer Testimonial

and please read some of the comments from Apple's App Store and Google Play Store about Barclay's bPay app.

Simply pointing out that some people actually like what they are doing.

Edit: bPay was a pilot program, that apparently ended this past April. I'm assuming it was gathering data for what CurrentC will be.

I watched and read, again you're missing what some are trying to say here!!! I don't care if people use this other forms of payment, I want the choice to use anyone of them!

I want the most secure, private form of payment process, short of paying cash!

Any time you ask me to store my info in an App Cloud, you have lost my interest! I don't want to open an App and focus my camera on a QR code! I'll use a credit card swipe before that!

If you have setup your iPhone for Apple Pay, you'll see that credit card numbers do not show up on phone, my FINGERPRINT is the only thing that will allow the payment to go through.

The video you pointed out, and what I read, did not show me in anyway that it's safe and secure! My info is still in the cloud, they can sell it or use it for whatever they choose!

Do you think Clouds storing our personal info are safe from hacks, or any security breach! Before you ask, no I don't trust iCloud from being hack proof! What I do trust is NFC with Apple Pay as the safest, fast and private payment process!

For the record my Barclay card will soon support Apple Pay!
It appears Barclay will support another form of payment process as well, from what links you posted. Barclay seems to get it, supporting different methods.

MCX will offer all these coupons or deals for using it, until they have enough people & business locked in and then just like unlimited Data, find a way out of giving those discount & coupons etc.

Some people keep saying Apples in it for the money, I sure hope so, that's why they're giving us something better! The great thing is Apple Pay is not one sided, we, the consumer are actually getting something from it for FREE! Safe, secure, private and convenient! The banks/CC companies pay for it, what more can we ask for???

I don't care how much money Apple makes as long as I'm not paying a percentage! CurrentC/MCX is all about merchant and getting your information, storing it, selling it and using it to overwhelm you with Adds.

What I want, is the Choice to use Apple Pay/NFC or, maybe I'll try MCX, but only if it's my choice.

I've been waiting for another NFC payment system as long as NFC has been out, I think Google Wallet is nice, but I just can't stand Google in my face all the time.

Part of "your app, not someone else's" the video says. yeah, like most people will want an app for every store they visit.

Exactly, it would be exhausting trying to find the right App and then do the Camera on QR code. I would have been out of the store, by the time the QR code was read!

I've had two different cards compromised in the last 6 months. What percentage of the total population even has a credit card?

Fraud is a huge deal. Enough of a deal that Apple Pay is saving banks boat loads of money in fraud protections.

I'm not using AP ONLY. But I'd rather use it than regular magnetic strip methods that have been around for DECADES.

Feel free to live in 1970. I'll move forward with technology.

Well it's a good thing that very few people can use CurrentC currently. However condemning it before it launches out of beta seems like a waste of time.

Amen! You are so right! And I'm sure the same mentality existed when CC's came out and the same with the mag strip.

I believe the MCX is trying to address that by having a single app for all merchants, CurrentC.

BTW, I've read that Paydiant has a Bluetooth low power method in the works as well, which I'm guessing will be an alternative to the QR code.

But don't you want the choice? I might find I'll use it in one particular store, if I feel that security is taken seriously.

I want to be able to allow who gets my info, not forced!

I can't emphasize enough, that they shut down NFC out of complete panic, that Apple Pay is a big threat!

If they felt CurrentC was a better method, they would allow Apple Pay as well not force the Merchants into up front cost and exclusivity!

…To confirm this fact one only has to notice the two thousand posts the Apple faithful have made in a very short time…

At least half of those 2K posts have been made by people who, for no apparent reason, seem to believe it's their life's mission to argue against anything and everything Apple does, and insult anyone who seems to like Apple products and services.

Conversely: What percentage of the population received replacement cards issued because of Target, Home Depot, and the other recent breaches? Banks don't do that for no reason.

You are exactly right, even a small inconvenience and the anxiety of Target or Home Depot letting you know you were one that was effected by the breach.

I was one of the Target and Home Depot consumers effected.
I hate when I'm one of the people effected, and you hear the percentage of people effected is 2 & 3%. It's 100% when you are one of 2 or 3%.

Your observation is entirely accurate, however like most everything else there's a reason. One which goes beyond the haters that post outrageous, baseless comments on the net just because they can.

For ages Apple's been a polarizing company due to past practices much of which came from the ever so arrogant narcissistic prior CEO. Then we have the throngs of his cult like followers that hung on his every word, every expression, those who saw him as a father figure, role model, creator of great wealth, genius, God. A trend he relished, nurtured and worked to enlist more people in. Apple as a religion over a very lengthy period. Users so conceited they mirrored that same narcissism, that same elitist attitude. Bashing Microsoft via juvenile tactics, some of which are still being used in the present on Samsung (spelled Samesung or worse) and Google.

Regular mature Apple enthusiasts were in the minority, but nothing lasts forever and we're just now beginning to witness some push back from the ex worshipers against Apple's attitude and tactics. Many of Apples current detractors come from previous customers after they grew up, woke up to Apples game and are now thinking independently with their own minds. Finally forming their own thoughts and opinions, no longer letting Apple dictate to them. An interesting dynamic. But with great wealth comes great power and influence in the money obsessed USA.

Massively wealthy, Apple remains the biggest bully of all. Fierce power and influence gives Apple all the tools needed to remain on top for many years ahead.

I doubt they will care and will most likely try and leverage the info for their own gain

It's not a question of caring. Not being HIPAA compliant results in incredibly large fines PER infractions. Not only a PR nightmare - but could easily sink a business if the scale is large enough.

Your ability to exaggerate is unbounded.

There's also a misconception. No where have I read that stores will ONLY allow CurrenC. They might now allow NFC payments - but I would be very surprised if they decide to forbid credit card transactions. They just want to make sure if you want the convenience of paying by phone, that you use their method.

Which is incredibly inconvenient, so no one will use it. If apple pay and google wallet did not exist and had never been dreamt of, still no one would use it, they would just use a credit card or cash instead of spending a minute or two for the "convenience" of paying via this kludgy app.

----------

Apple will probably get 0.15% per transaction made, so shut up if u just wish to defend Apple no matter what. I like Apple, that's why I'm on this forum, I only pointed out why retailers would be reluctant to use Apple Pay. If retailers can develop an 'in-house' mobile system, at least they don't need to give that 0.15% to Apple.

Retailers don't pay an extra cent. How hard is this to understand ?
The .15% comes from the banks and they pay that because they reckon there will be less fraud. The banks do not pass the .15% on to the retailers. So the retailers don't pay any more.

I've repeat that as it may help you understand.

Nonsense, the way to stop bad plans - in politics or business - is to fight them when they become public BEFORE it's too late.

If that causes you anxiety, I'd hate to see how you handle a situation where there is a good cause to be anxious. As long as you didn't use a debit card, it's literally a non-issue. You get a new card, the fraudulent charges are taken off your bill, done. Now, for debit, you can go a few weeks without access to your money. But you always made sure no one account had all the money you needed to live on for a couple weeks, right? ESPECIALLY if you choose to use debit cards...

Maybe I said it wrong, I was trying to say in general, people get that way! There's not much that causes me anxiety or issues other then maybe my kids or wife being hurt etc.

I used my being one that was on the breaches as an example of how people I have dealt with would take this, some friends included.

What I've have seen in my business is the average person can not deal with these little things at all!

Personally, I've never been afraid of ID theft or people nosing into my business to protect national security. I would rather not let them do it, but I really don't have anything of interest when it comes to that!

ID theft is just a major inconvenience, that I've witnessed to several people including employees. That is serious anxiety to some! Apparently you can handle it better then all of them.

But I don't want CVS/Rite-Aid etc have access to my ****, or sending me all kinds of the bull that they think will make people come in, and spend $ on what they don't need.

If I have the option for a safer way to purchase (Apple Pay) that could save me a lot of inconvenience or people selling my info to send targeted adds at me, that's what I'm going to use!

If you're ok with some of that, send me all your personal info, SS CC's etc, I promise I'll keep it safe, but if I don't, sounds like no big deal to you.....#

You realize that since it's only in beta - this type of judgment can't really be made. I reserve judgement until it's rolled out.

But I don't want CVS/Rite-Aid etc have access to my ****, or sending me all kinds of the bull that they think will make people come in, and spend $ on what they don't need.

If I understand you correctly, I'm the opposite. To me, it makes no sense to give up free money.

I use store loyalty cards all the time, and get discounts and deals on lots of useful items.

It's not much different than getting loyalty points or cash back on a credit card with awards.

--

Besides, the credit card companies and the banks already sell aggregated data that allow stores to send out coupons for the "kind of bull that they think will make people come in and spend $". The only difference with Apple Pay, is the coupons will be less targeted, and thus less useful.

In short, I see the token as useful because it helps (but does not prevent all by itself) avoid the annoyance of credit card replacements.

But I also have no problem with a store knowing my name and giving me kickbacks or special treatment. In fact, I expect that from places that I frequent, whether it's a restaurant, bank or store.

Where did I say they, people will walk out of stores because they don't have a certain payment method?

Some simply won't go, I would never go to a store to purchase something, with the mind set that I'll walk out leaving my item(s) behind if they won't take Apple Pay.

What I will do is, go to Walgreens rather then CVS/Rite-Aid and over the next year they'll lose money from people like me, who go there a lot. I'm sure we'll see stores like Wahlgreens advertising exempting Apple Pay soon. I know I would, even if it's a short term surge until CVS/Rite-Aid see the light.

Do you think that Apple doesn't have enough of a following to effect sales???

Do you think Apple Pay is not a more secure and private way to pay???

Ask Blackberry about Apple's following and their Zealots having an inmpact on sales!

If you have any business sense at all, you would know, even a small amount of people can have a big effect on store chains. Let's use 5 people for example, X how many Target stores, with an average splending habit of $10 per visit? How much could that add up too, then add up how many times those 5 people per year visit? Keeping in mind how many Target Stores their are, how many Walmart stores etc.

Factor in a big purchase from one of those visits.

That adds up quick, we have 2 shops, and if 5 of my customers decided not to use us, and go to the competition, would I not lose a good amount of money? Simply because I wouldn't exept a payment method that costs me nothing.

Losing any amount of money, simply because you turned off a prefered payment method, by evan a small portion of your customer base, is just plain ignorant!

Being an Apple Fan does not cloud my common sense or business sense, hating Apple or Apple Pay should not cloud yours!
