What is up with that? I'm having jailbreak issues so I did a restore from a save point 2 hours before the jailbreak came out. After the restore Cydia and the jb apps still remain. Some Cydia apps work, other do not. None show up in settings (like NCSettings). I've re-sprung / hard booted many times. Nothing changes.

God I hope I don't have to do a complete wipe and start over as a new phone.

----------

If I did a complete wipe and then restored from my last backup (2 hrs b4 the jailbrake came out) I should be ok right?

If you did a restore from backup, that's to be expected. A restore from backup restores your data - it does not restore the OS.

If you want to wipe the jb away, you have to do a restore (hit the restore option in itunes). Once you do that, you will no longer be jailbroken; however, if you then restore from backup to get your data back, there will still be remnants from the jb on your phone (Cydia and all of your jb apps will be gone though),

How did you restore, regular restore from iTunes or did you put the phone in DFU 1st then restore in itunes? DFU restore is the only way to completely get rid of a JB...then you can restore from backup normally and re-jailbreak

I originally did a restore from backup. I just tried to do a complete restore and it stopped and said it was an unknown error.

If you have TU installed, make sure your hosts file is pointing to Apple's servers and not Cydia (check the advanced settings).

I didn't do a DFU mode restore. I'll try that.

Now itunes is not even recognizing the phone.

Ok... DFU mode worked. Doing a hard restore.

Got the same error doing a restore in DFU mode. Is my phone bricked now?

Oh. TU won't let me uncheck that box. Can I do that manually?

There are two hosts files in drivers/etc. Both of them have # in front of every line. Which address needs to be there to point to Apple?

Im on a mac, i edited my last line to look l ike this:

#74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

I believe the IP itself (on mine) points to cydia but it redirects to apple..on windows its should be similar

Download TinyUmbrella
Launch it.
Click on the “Advanced” tab.
Uncheck “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit”
Click on “Apply Changes”
Reboot your PC/Mac.

TinyUmbrella will automatically replace the address pointing to Cydia with one that points to apple's official server and let you complete the restore.

Or, you can edit the syshost file yourself and risk screwing up your programs. Your choice.

:)

I uninstalled/reintalled itunes and it took the restore in DFU mode. Restoring from backup now. Then jailbreak again and hopefully Cydia and the repos are working better now.

This was all from adding custom .pngs to iBox Carbon theme in Winterboard using iFunbox... After a respring, all of the Cydia apps were out of the folder I had them in and none of them were showing up in settings. Cydia lauched ok, but most of the Cydia apps crashed on launch. It almost seemed like the phone was in safe mode, but it didn't show it was on the status bar.

Cydia app

I did a jailbreak on my iphone 5 last year and dint like it much so i did a normal restore from the itunes and it was working fine, i had to restart my phone someday and thn I saw a Repo Cydia red color icon app there in my phone and its been around 6-7 months I'm still facing some issues, is there any solution to it.
I don't have tht previous data which I restored now it i completely erase my phone and restore the data i still get that app back in my phone, and i feel that is creating some problems in my phone.

I'm attaching a screen shot of the app icon, do let me know if this can be resolved.

You are getting it back because you are restoring from your backup. You need to start as new after restoring to completely remove everything related to jailbreak

HI darrick

You mean to say that i will have to compromise with my data my text messages, my whatsapp chat history etc ?

Can someone help me i have the same problem on an iphone 5s 9.3.3 and when i restore the app is still there and i dont want to update

One thing I don't understand with back ups...If I want to go back to stock iOS and delete any trace of the JB on my phone, a DFU restore + restore from a iCloud back up that was saved a day before I jailbreak my phone, is my phone will reload some JB files on it ?
