Why does my Cydia icon have a red circle with '1' showing? I opened it a few times to see if there was an update waiting but I did not see anywhere to liok for an update. Sorry for the newb question.

It means you have a package that has an update.
Go to the CHANGES tab and look in the upper right corner.
It should show the updates.
