At the iPhone hacks section.
Chpwn has announced that the work to make Cydia ready for iOS 4.2 has been completed.

esmandau: @chpwn how's Cydia for iOS 4.2 Going....! #Thanks "For Just Reading Me"

chpwn: @esmandau In ready position.

There are still many other reasons you may want to hold off on upgrading to iOS 4.2 though.

Awesome! Now if we can just get the final release and the jailbreak...

And I'm the second person to reply. Won't someone give me a dollar or something else to commemeorate this auspicious occasion?

What benefits are there in 4.2 for iPhone 4 users? My impression that 4.2 was "mainly" for iPad users. Is this correct?

Sorry guys, only the 5th reply gets a prize:D
4.2 has a few bug fixes and some cool additions but not enough to make me jump to it untill all my JB packages are updated and work fine on 4.2

i hope 4.2 addresses the BT issue.. i think its a little better than 4.1 but still other people on the line say i sound "mechanical" when i go more than 5 feet away from my iphone 4.. i am using a 975 too.

Yeah, here is the warning posted by Bigboss yesterday:
4.2 is due out soon. Most of you should hold off on the update for now. If you have some bug you are hoping is fixed by 4.2, it’s not.

Worse yet, while limera1n and greenpois0n allow for 4.2 to be jailbroken, in most cases this is a tethered jailbreak. That means if you have to reboot your device, it shows a “connect to itunes” logo until you run the jailbreak software again. I suggest not updating until something changes and your device is in the untethered jailbreak list (once tools are out):

iphone3g - will run 4.2 untethered. Redsn0w or such will be updated
iphone 3gs - old bootrom will run 4.2 untethered if done via pwnage tool while updating from 4.1. Otherwise it will be tethered.
iPhone 4 - tethered
iPod 2g - 4.2 untethered.
ipod 3g and newer - tethered
iPad - tethered.

Tethered jailbreak isn’t that bad for ipads and ipods. But if something happens and your iphone reboots while you’re away from your computer, you cant use the device until you get home and run something on your computer again. The community is working on a solution to this to either make the jailbreak untethered or at least semi-tethered. Semi-tethered means the device will at least reboot, but unjailbroken while on the road until you return to your computer
.

Not for some of us--no proximity sensor issue here and no use for the new features, so I'm still running 4.0. AirSharing is tempting though once they get the JB untethered.

I have a number of apps that let me print from my iPhone, and transfer files back and forth to my computer. Do I ever actually print from my phone? No. I also don’t have the proximity issue or any issue for that matter, so I’ll probably pass on an update that may cause new problems, knowing Apple’s history lately.

This is too funny/coincidental for me.

I just finished upgrading from 4.0.1 to 4.1 this morning. Yeah....been meaning to do it for several weeks now.....and not enough time (takes 2-3 hours with all the music/movies I have as well as the custom theme/backgrounder/setup/entering all the passwords for apps, etc. etc. even with pkgbackup).

But the proximity sensor issue bit me A LOT the past week, and finally had enough.

FWIW, the proximity sensor issue seems to be much better. Sometimes I could literally watch the screen go on and off many times in a row while on a call and the phone to my ear.

Maybe I can manage to update to 4.2 when 4.3 is about to be released....:D

Isn't that the truth? :D

I have printing apps too, that mostly work, and if they've really crippled AirPrint, I'll stick with them. It's being able to wirelessly play music from the phone that's tempting me badly, and folders on the iPad (Categories is pretty sketchy on that device). Still, I figure I'll be waiting quite a while yet.

Glad to hear Cydia's ready though!
