wish id seen this earlier :( i restored my iphone and rejailbroke it then when i restored the backup i chose not to restore the sources and added them manually. But your way is so much easier! lol

How do I get apt.saurik.com back as a source

I used the method described by poosee22 and I was able to get 3 of the 4 repos that had previously been giving me 404 errors. The only one that I cannot get back is apt.saurik.com (it is not one of the 3 listed on the "more package sources" page.

Can someone please advise how to get saurik back??? Thanks.

Oh, and did I mention I'm still stuck in Safe Mode.

I will say this... PKGBackup sure has caused me a lot of grief. Backup is supposed to make backing up / restoring simple and easy. This thing has made it such a pain... I'm hoping he does some updates or something. It was a relatively expensive package. Such a PITA.

My thoughts exactly. I've never had a restore go smoothly with PKGBackup.

you tried adding it manually, right? (by going to: Manage > Sources > Edit > Add)

Thanks poose22. Your solution worked. Someone sent the link to this thread to the PackageBackup dev. He is working on a fix.

Does anyone know...if during the Restore, if one chooses in PKGBackup to Overwrite- rather than Merge...would this have prevented the problems from the start?

Glad I saw this thread. I'm holding off upgrading from 4.2.1 to 4.3.1 completely for this PKGBackup issue. Past JBs went so well because I could quickly and simply restore with PKGBackup. Hoping to do that again...

Thanks!

Okay I managed to completely reset my sources (and Cydia generally). Here's how:

...Navigate to /var/lib/apt/lists

Delete all of the files in this folder except the one called "lock"

I was just browsing those directories and thinking that some of those files are Cydia's lists of installed Packages- i.e. not just Repo lists. Wouldn't deleting those cause Cydia to lose all the data in Cydia->Manage->Packages?

Waiting to pull the trigger on upgrading to 4.3.1 and just wishing Jibril would update PKGBackup for his paid users!

If you don't have iFile, download it from Cydia.

Open iFile.

Navigate to /private/etc/apt/sources.list.d

Delete the file "cydia.list" (click EDIT on the top right, select the file, and click the waste basket).

Navigate to /var/lib/apt/lists

Delete all of the files in this folder except the one called "lock"

Navigate to /var/lib/apt/lists/partial

Delete all of the files in this folder

Navigate to /var/lib/cydia

Delete the file "metadata.plist"

Close iFile and restart Cydia. You should be at the first screen you saw when you first started Cydia: What kind of user are you? Make your selection and Cydia will re-generate the default sources.

Good luck.

Just want to add that this worked for me as well, thanks! Only thing I did different was use the free iPhone Explorer app for Mac to drill down into the specified folders to delete problem files.

Can I ask, after doing that did Cydia still show all your installed Packages? i.e. in Cydia, go to Manage->Packages. Does it still show all your installed Packages with the green check marks?

Thanks!

Yes, installed packages with the check do show up just fine in Cydia.

Now my Cydia won't load. In order to rejailbreak my phone, do I need to restore my phone to default?

I tried to redownload the GreenPoison jailbreak for VeriPhone, but Cydia still crashes immediately.

I just found an old Cydia file online and installed it into Cydia/AutoInstall and it's working now.

For some reason the method by poose22 didn't work for me, I was unable to add the offending sources. However the method from stlblufan DID work for me and I now have a fully working, non error messaging Cydia!

Big thanks to both for posting solutions though as I'm sure 1 method works for some and probably not for others

Woohoo! PKGBackup 4.3.0 just arrived on Cydia! Lots of fixes- thank you Jabril!

I upgraded my 3gs last night from 4.2.1 to 4.3.1 with PwnageTool and then restored my apps with the new PKGBackup 4.3.0. All Repos restored correctly and Cydia works fine.

Only PKGBackup issue I noted is that settings for iBlacklist were not restored, whereas that had worked fine back when I upgraded to 4.2.1
