My wife and I share her MacBook Pro, she has the admin account and I'm a standard user.
We want to purchase a back-up software such Carbon Copy Cloner etc.

Does the purchase, download and set-up have to under the admin user account or can it be under my standard user account..... does it matter at all?

Thanks

Anyone have a answer?

Is downloading Carbon Copy Cloner whilst logged into a standard user account (on a shared laptop) have any detrimental affect as opposed to downloading whilst logged into the admin account?

Usually, no.

When you need to install, or do anything that requires admin rights, use the admin account credentials even when using a standard (non-admin) account.

I say usually, because once in a while I have seen some software that does. But it is rare, and my hunch is that is badly designed. Should not be that way.

Oh, and you can make both accounts admin accounts if you want. Just open the User & Groups preference pane, select the std. user, and check the Allow user to administer this computer box.
