Eh, it's not much different than the D50. 1/2" bigger screen....and...what else? [Shrug] -- The D70s still seems like a better buy if you are coming into the DSLR market. Unless the D80 really replaces the D70, it seems like there are a lot of entry points for Nikon. D40, (D50,) (D70/s,) D80...D200...and then the top boys.

Wow! I never saw that one coming! Is it supposed to undercut the D50? Is there a price? If they could price it aggressively, it would be a huge advantage over Canon on the low-end SLR market. I'm sure they could get more people hooked switching from P&S cameras and drive lens sales and future upgrade sales. A great idea to try and lock in users early. I wonder how Canon will counter.

It is quite different. AF-S only lenses (no AF motor), no top LCD, lighter, smaller (I didn't think it was possible), etc.

Seems more in the range of the new Olympus E-400 but it's still over 100 grams heavier, though about the same dimensions.

129.5 mm (W) x 91 mm (H) x 53 mm (D) for the Olympus E-400

126 x 94 x 64 for the Nikon D40.

Nice to see smaller cameras again.

Phil Askey had some nice words about its build. Apparently, Nikon knows how to build small cameras :D

Looks good. Lots of camera from the price. I'll stick with my FE for now though... ;)

But I want that price noooooooooooow.

This camera gives my no reason to change my views from Pentax. I looooooooove the D80. But I couldn't afford it for a while. If they offered a camera body for $350 and I played around with a K10D and still liked the D80 more... I'd probably buy that camera with hopes of getting a D80 in the future. Right now, I don't see the full picture for me. It's still absent.

In the UK, it's £449 ( Jessops ) with a kit lens. Unfortunately, that's only £40 cheaper than a 400D with a kit lens.
