So my dad decided to upgrade the ram on his Powerbook G4 to 2GB. Initially everything went smoothly and the ram was detected and working. Within a week though, the computer only recognized 1 of the memory slots. Switching the ram cards around proved that the ram itself was fine but that the one memory bank was not working.
So I ask you all, is this at all a common problem with the Powerbook G4? And what would you recommend we do about it. Our concern is that a repair may cost more than it is worth considering this is an old machine.

Well they still have a repair programme for bad memory slots on the PB G4s, if it qualifies:
Computer model: 15-inch PowerBook G4

PowerBook serial number range, first 5 digits:
W8503 - W8518

If not then it's a rather expensive logic board replacement.
