I just installed it and I have 2 options: New Note or New Recording. New Recording just does the mic icon and blinks it, then you click done and you go back to the 2 buttons.

Diarly doesn't have multiple entries per day so if you do 2-3 entries on the same day it puts it in 1 entry but separates them with lines.

I did another recording, and now Friday Nov 19 2021 has 2 voice entries.

Yeah seems to go to the default.
Thanks for the reply.

I found out with Day One, you need to turn the crown to select the journal you want to send a dictation to.

With Diarly and dictation, if you have more than one journal, you should see other journal options by turning the crown. I try that and each test seems to go to the same place. See if you can reproduce.

With Diarly, when you press the watch keyboard, does the keyboard come up on your series 7? I doesn't for me. I sent a note to the developer and he claims it does for him. I then sent him a video of the problem and never heard back.

I have a series 7, and use Diarly on macOS and iOS. I can check and report here as well, in a while.

I wanted to put Diarly on my Mac but, it requires Rosetta and I didn't want to install.

For those who want to use Diarium and have an M1 Mac, I got a reply from the developer on the subject of Silicon support.

"Diarium is built using Xamarin. It's currently not possible to built native ARM apps for M1 processors with Xamarin but I think they are working on it.

I had another look into this today and it seems that ARM-support is currently a preview feature in Xamarin.Mac. However, I am using a dependency in Diarium that currently seems to not support that CPU architecture. I will contact the dependency maintainer asking for support."

I have installed Diarly on the new MBP but am yet to launch it. It needs Rosetta? Hmmm. Not installing Rosetta. Will wait for the M1 binary then. Till then, it’s iOS only.

EDIT:

Diarly is important to me, I got out of bed to check it, couldn't wait. Is it possible you have an earlier version of Diarly? As it stands, Diarly is an Apple Silicon app and did not require downloading Rosetta.

Correct - despite using the crown, and selecting my Work Journal (and clicking it so it is highlighted) - all recordings go to the main default journal. Can reproduce.

Never caught this before because I only send audio journals to my main.

Thanks for checking. I will send a report to the developer this weekend. It is a decent app but, it definitely needs more work with the GUI. It isn't as smooth and refined as Day One.

Absolutely is not as refined as Day One. That is its one Achilles'' Heel.

Needs work with GUI and options. But, in my testing, the sync is so incredibly fast with iCloud, still makes me smile. And the app itself works quite fast. Not refined, yes, but, thankfully, fast.

I agree with your comments. If the developer can get the GUI in better shape, I think he could have a lot more subs.

Diarly received an update today. How does this fare?

Yeah I wanna know the wording and tone of the 'report' that @Apple_Robert sent to the developer. ?
I just let him know in no uncertain terms, that if the people of MR didn't see an update forthwith, we would all be switching to Linux post haste and wearing Fitbits.

The series 7 watch keyboard problem (re: not being able to use the new keyboard) won't be fixed until the Developer gets a series 7.

Hi all,

2 years since DayOne App has been acquired by another company.

There have been lots to discuss in 2021, but considering it is now in 2023, how is everyone feeling about DayOne app ? Has anything changed like what many on this thread were fearing ?

I’m still on the free version and have not yet gone premium. I was thinking of it (although it is like $55 aud/year)

but would you still recommend to ’watch, wait and see?’ Or can we confidently say that DayOne is now to be trusted, let’s give them our hard earned money ?

I jumped ship to Diarly after being a Day One user for many years. I liked the idea of having my data on my iCloud space. I've been very happy with it and haven't thought about moving.

Would love to hear about those who have stayed with Day One and what's been happening over the last few years.

just following on my post 2 years after Day One Journaling app has been bought over by Automattic ,

now in another blow to DayOne , ‘Jurassic’ will be launched by apple soon in iOS17 !

this is probably the final nail in the coffin for DayOne remaining the same - massive change must be coming for the company to keep it afloat now.

thoughts ?

We’ll have to wait and see what Apple’s copy will have to offer. Evernote is still in business although many went to Apple notes.

Day One has continued to be flawless for me in my grandfathered plan.

Copying this that I wrote on a Reddit thread just for ease of discovery:

As a decade-long user of Day One, I’m intrigued. They’d have to make a hell of a product to come close. I was also very interested in the medication tracker they baked into the Health app, but Apple’s implementation wasn’t enough to steer me from Medisafe. They’d need to include everything Day One does as well as Day One does it, and add to the functionality. And they’d need to give me a way to elegantly export and publish. Given how hard it is to get anything out of Notes as it is, I don’t think the folks at Day One are losing sleep just yet.

I was initially worried about it being bought by Automatic(sp?) but it seems to have worked out so far.

I am on a grandfathered in free plan, so I am able to enable E2E encryption; this has been a worry the whole time as I want it secure. The grandfather plan allowed me to have this new option when automatic bought them (IIRC).

Now that Apple plans to enter, I am curious, but I have zero plans to leave. I’m a basic user with no need for the fancier aspects (paying) will bring.

Even if Apple kills them, Day One has always had a decent option to export your journals so I’m not worried. How that process works, I don’t know cause I have not actually ever used it.

As a new user, things are vary different, and most likely Apple will lure many, as Apple will give you many things (theoretically) for free that you would have to pay for in D1…
