I have a real quick question about daisy chaining some firewire drives.

I'm looking at buying an OWC Mercury for my macmini. I'm going to connect it via FW800. Can I then daisy chain a FW400 device to the OWC? The drive has 2 FW800 ports but only 1 FW400 so can this be done?

Should work fine. With the FW800 at the head of the chain (nearest to the Mac), you'll get full speed. I have a similar setup: 3 FW800's, then two FW400 drives and a FW400 burner. You can also use the FW800 port on the drive for FW400 with a FW800<>Fw400 cable. (17" ubMBP Early 2009)

Do you have a lot of combined fan noise?
