The cruise staff damaged the iPad. :(

That made the main button not work very well.

Got a new iPad from the Genius Bar today.

We are not quite sure how it happened. We got back to the room and found it that way. It probably hit the side of the table in the room.

Why should you even ask Apple to replace it? You won't buy a car and have someone put a dent in it and take it back to the dealer for a free fix/replacement.

Am I the only one who thinks this?

I never said I asked Apple to replace it for free. I brought it in to see what the repair would cost. They are the ones that offered to replace it for free.

Since reading a number of posts on mac rumors, I've seen a lot of instances where I would never have guessed Apple would actually replace damaged products outside of production.

Others have too, and probably say they why not give it a shot. I'm assuming the "geniuses" take a look at the damage and take a look at your history with Apple and probably take a look at their current inventory and make a decision.

Customer service is worth a lot in today's world, and one reason people are willing to pay a premium. The fact that Apple is willing to do this is some instances says a lot about their customer service, and one reason why they have such a loyal base of consumers.

While I would not expect for my ipad to be replaced because of accidental damage, nor blame Apple if they refused to replace it, from what I have seen, I would definitely attempt to see if they would be willing to do so. I own quite a few Apple products. I have yet to return one because of any damage, intentional, accidental, or due to non-user defect, but because they make such excellent quality products and appear to have such good customer service, I will keep looking to buy from them.

Yes but they have, and they may have just done it as a goodwill to keep the customer happy. Some car dealers are known to do this too, especially when it is a new car/ipad

Your post lacked any detail whatsoever.

It's wrong for people not to get replacements for dead pixels, but to exchange for that user damage.

And your post made a stupid assumption based on a lack of knowledge.
