I seem to break my camera after installing a camera cover slide on MacBook Pro 15" 2017.

I couldn't find any reports of this happening after using a cover. All seem to talk about damage to the screen after closing laptop, but I examined the screen carefully and it looks fine. Just my camera stopped working – it says "There is no connected camera" in FaceTime or Photo Booth, which sucks in this Zoom era. I tried resetting NVRAM and SMC, and I tried to use a new user, but it didn't help.

Did anyone experience it? I'm just surprised no one reported this yet.

Well, Apple clearly says that you should not put anything between the keyboard and the lid. Also no keyboard "protector". There's almost no clearance between the display and the keyboard. The only thing that fits there is a very thing microfiber cloth to not get keycap marks on the display. But that's it already.

Those camera covers can cause pressure onto the camera board and sensor and therefore damage it. It will be invisible from the outside, the sensor can still be permanently damaged.

Wow, it suddenly started working more than a month after it broke. Epilog: don't use camera covers with macbooks!
