So my iPhone 12 Pro came with free chips and a rough edge, and am currently waiting a nice slow 2 week turnaround from Currys here in the UK.
I was just wondering who else received a defective device, whether physical damage or a yellow screen that can't be rectified? I've seen reports of the yellow, but no one else apart from me seems to have an iPhone with bite marks. :(

Very disappointing!

My 2 iPhone 12's were fine cosmetically but both have loud speaker issues.

See thread -

How disappointing. With the display issues and now this; macrumours is giving me every reason to not buy a launch product.

That really sucks. :(

It's kinda the reason that I'd rather buy direct from Apple though, even if there's a slightly longer wait time. Take that back to an Apple store and it would be swapped out without question.

The problem is that they don't have anything to swap it out with. Its going to be a while before you can walk into a store and get a replacement device. People are going to have to just send them in and wait for Apple to get them a new one.

You could be lucky though. A few years back I had some chips/damage around the bezel of a newly delivered 5S. I took it back to the store the day after launch, and it was swapped out no problem. The person in the store said that they generally always have a few "white box" spares of each colour and storage capacity available, even immediately after launch. Perhaps things have changed, but I'd certainly be giving it a shot.

But they do, most Apple stores in the UK have replacement iPhones(generic white box) for cases like these. A few years back I had a problem with my day one iPhone X(there was a visible gap between the side and the glass), I went to the Apple store and I got a replacement unit there and then. Funny thing is I didn't even buy the phone from them... their customer service is second to none.

You’re discouraged from buying the new phone because of a few cosmetic issues on a mass-produced electronic device? Consider the sheer number of these thing being pumped out vs. the relatively small number of complaints you have seen.

Don’t ever use the macrumors community as a basis for your decisions. This is a place where people come specifically to complain. If you can find 20 real life people that have already received their new phone chances are high they’re all going to be happy with it.

Hope this helps.

Not discouraged from buying the product; discouraged from buying at launch. Big difference. I like to wait a few months. Had I brought the phone at launch I may of ended up ordering the Lego blue colour, which I now realise I hate after seeing it. One of many reasons I would never order a phone at launch before there’s various reviews and hands on impressions.

It’s probably a manufacturer damage issue and this happens from time to time. Unfortunately you’ll just have to replace it with another and have to go through the waiting period. Sorry that it happened, but it does happen from time to time from other manufacturers as well.

I looked at my phone upon arrival and everything was just fine and many others as well or they would have posted by now

I would return the whole thing back, Apple wants to then give you another phone which doesn’t match the serial number on your current box, if you decide to sell it in the future the box will not match the phone they gave you. I had a similar experience once, and I just returned it within the 14 days and got a whole new phone in its box. There is no excuse why Apple shouldn’t return you the whole thing and give you a brand new seal box phone, besides you have paid probably $1,000+ for that phone. No excuse.

My graphite came with little scratches out of the box on the stainless steel. But it went into a apple clear case instantly so it doesn’t really matter to me. The screen is so perfect though I couldn’t imagine returning this one for a possible worse screen. Add the 3 week wait again. Already sold my 11 pro.
