A little buying advice if you don’t mind. I’m about to spend $100 for the 2nd time because my dog chewed up my right AirPod Pro 2 (yes I was stupid and forgot to get Apple Care). I am usually always safe but life comes fast and I occasionally forget to put them back in their case.

I’m heavily considering just buying the Pro Max instead to prevent this from happening again.

Before I do so, just wondering if anyone has gone from the Pro 2 to the Max and been happy with their purchase.

Aaaaand wondering if anyone has advice (other than not forgetting to put them back in their case) to keep dogs away from AirPod Pros. Like a repellent or anything like that.

Thank you!

PS. I'm also trying to think long term too. Basically because of my wonderful dog, I've now already spent $450 on this pair of AirPod Pro 2's, yes some of that is my bad for forgetting to add AC+, but even with that, it would have still been another $60-$80. I also know that while AirPod Pros are more portable, it's also much easier to lose them, so I feel like there's more risk there long term.

You could also consider other earphones, such as the soon to be released PowerBeats Pro. They are bigger, so harder to lose.

Did you consider trying to get just what was chewed up replaced? Your post reminded me of something I stumbled across on eBay before, and a search just now turned this up:

Apple AirPods Pro - 2nd Gen - Genuine Replacement Right, Lightning - A2698 E-Bud

SamanthaTronics
US $57.99
Condition:
UsedUsed

I don't know this person nor do I sell through eBay; I'm just saying, you might be able to salvage most of your investment. Even if you get the Max, might be nice to have your buds, too.

Are you sure your dog can't chew up the Max?

Thanks! Yeah, I looked into some eBay sites that are a little cheaper. I just worry about ending up with a fake replacement.

And to answer your question about my dog, the weird thing is is that he is really good with chewing on stuff, but for whatever reason once he got a taste of these little earbuds, he hasn’t stopped. I don’t know if he would really go after bigger over the ear headphones.

I do also have an older pair of AirPod pros first generation, but they have that annoying issue with the static on one of them, but it seems like it’s not present if I don’t have noise canceling on.

I suspect I know the answer to that mystery. I'm a dog owner, too. They seem to really like ear wax, and of course the buds probably smell of it.
Well, that will do it! So maybe that’s a good answer to my question. That over the year might be the way I should go.

Ew. But that might mean disrupting the smell somehow, like cleaning regularly with screen wipes, might work.

Yeah I think what's tough is that (and this is how I've always been) I love falling a sleep to music and the Airpods Pro fall out of my ears when that happens. And that's when the dog eyes his prize.

I see that you went with the Max, but if you do decide to replace the destroyed airpod, it almost seems like you're better off buying a new pair and getting applecare, then selling off the old case & Left Pod to minimize your new pair cost, but to protect yourself, should the dog get at them again.

I agree. I was thinking about that at some point too. Might wait for a sale down the road and just rock both at some point.

My dog once ate one of my hearing aids. The lesson I learned is, when the hearing aids are not in my ears, they are stored in a night stand drawer. Maybe that method will work in your future, it has in mine.

I know my response is "off subject".

Do you have a little cloth bag? If so put them in that bag and spray a citrus scented spray or even find some sort of citrus potpourri. (That will probably be better since there isn't chemicals involved.) Just get a smaller bag to put the potpourri in and put that bag in the bag with your ear pods. Please let me know what you end up doing, I have a small dog who likes to chew on everything he can find. Good luck!

Mine started chewing the original AirPods pro case, luckily I was around and grabbed it. I used it for few years with custom bites lol. I keep the AirPods or case away from the dog

I have a max, but I baby sit them more than AirPods Pro. Personally Max may be more tempting toy for the dog.

That is exactly what happened with my AP2. I fell asleep and one AP2 fell out of my ear right on top of the tripe bone that my dog was chewing on. I really could not fault the dog for chewing it.

Yeah, nice thing is that they’ll be easier to keep track of. I can set them on my nightstand when I’m about to fall asleep or when I wake up at 2am with music blasting in my ears. Haha

Enjoy your Max. I love my max, sounds much better but don’t use them outside like my AirPods Pro. Max is great for flights and hotels.

Meanwhile in a secret lab probably in Cupertino: "Now that the experiment has resulted in user not just replacing the chewed half of the set but buying our most expensive and most profitable headphones, lets roll out the same sound stream that only dogs can hear to more buds to see if our new tactic in maximizing audio department revenue can work again." <evil laughs as a switch is thrown to propagate codename: BowWowWow! ;) >

Unless it was a live play by play, "eating" should have been "ate". Reminds me of the famous 3-word joke about the importance of commas: "Let's eat, Grandma"

OP: I don't see why Max will not interest that dog. I've seen dogs chew on shoes, furniture, rawhide bones BIGGER than the dog, etc. You need to adjust your habits so you always put away things beyond the reach of the dog. And maybe get him/her 1+ of them rawhide bones on which to chew-chew-chew all they like.
