Unless it was a live play by play, "eating" should have been "ate". Reminds me of the famous 3-word joke about the importance of commas: "Let's eat, Grandma"

OP: I don't see why Max will not interest that dog. I've seen dogs chew on shoes, furniture, rawhide bones BIGGER than the dog, etc. You need to adjust your habits so you always put away things beyond the reach of the dog. And maybe get him/her 1+ of them rawhide bones on which to chew-chew-chew all they like.
Surprisingly, my earbuds are the only thing outside of bones and chew toys that have interested him!

Am I the only one who had to read this thread because he thought it was some bizarre conversation about Air Pod Pros that had a taste for the flesh of dogs? I thought it was going to be some film student horror movie project.
You're not the only one

Reading this thread, I'm reminded for no particularly good reason of a guy I lent a pair of Shure in-ears to. I gave him several sets of spare tips but he lost them, didn't ask me for more and used the same tips for the relatively short time he had them on loan.

The tips were yellow. They came back brown.

I'm sure there was a good reason your dog loved the Airpods after they'd been worn.

Also, cats rule, dogs drool

Well I just did the dirty and picked up the Max. Yeah, this is great compared to sticking things in your ear. I might still use that old pair of Airpod Pros I have just for convenience, but I think I'll prefer listening to music on these instead!
I have both the AirPods Pro 2 and the AirPods Max. I find they're both awesome but for different purposes. The Pros are great for commuting, waterproof and pocket-able. I find the Max more comfortable are a step up in sound quality (especially bass) but I find them a bit bulky and annoying to commute with.

For sure, I have the first gen AirPod Pros. Unfortunately they make that hissing noise when I try to use noise cancelling, but I think they'll still come in handy when I need something portable.

yes I was stupid and forgot to get Apple Care
Just for the record, I’m pretty sure AppleCare+ for AirPods doesn’t cover loss, only damage. Except for the iPhone policies that explicitly cover loss and theft, the usual rule I’ve been told is that it generally doesn’t matter what condition it’s in as long as you return something remotely resembling the covered hardware.

So you’d have to wait to…uhh…recover the eaten AirPod, and then return it to Apple.

A little buying advice if you don’t mind. I’m about to spend $100 for the 2nd time because my dog chewed up my right AirPod Pro 2 (yes I was stupid and forgot to get Apple Care). I am usually always safe but life comes fast and I occasionally forget to put them back in their case.

I’m heavily considering just buying the Pro Max instead to prevent this from happening again.

Before I do so, just wondering if anyone has gone from the Pro 2 to the Max and been happy with their purchase.

Aaaaand wondering if anyone has advice (other than not forgetting to put them back in their case) to keep dogs away from AirPod Pros. Like a repellent or anything like that.

Thank you!

PS. I'm also trying to think long term too. Basically because of my wonderful dog, I've now already spent $450 on this pair of AirPod Pro 2's, yes some of that is my bad for forgetting to add AC+, but even with that, it would have still been another $60-$80. I also know that while AirPod Pros are more portable, it's also much easier to lose them, so I feel like there's more risk there long term.
I’d sell the dog, it’ll recoup some of your costs for whatever you decide to buy. Then get a cat!

Interesting thread, I would be concerned too if a dog or any other similar sized animal would bite into anything having a lithium battery and puncturing it. Even if its small a small battery it might cause severe damages to the animal.

Btw, @mjschabow, flippin great profile pic, RIP David Lynch and Frank Silva

I had a Bull Terrier a few years ago and his life’s ambition was to destroy. He went through shoes, books, cushions, clothing, sticks/logs.. dog toys were pointless and lasted minutes.. chuck him a tennis ball and he’d pop it first bite! I have no doubt he’d have destroyed my headphones if I’d had them then.. small and large. I just had to dog proof my flat.. think he saw that as some sort of challenge too!!
