I'm a PC to an iMac defecter and I'm actually amazed at how fast my new 24" iMac is. heck, this machine running at 2.4GHz feels just as fast as my PC that's running at 3.5GHz.

I'm impressed already and I've only hd the machine for roughly four hours.🙂

lol what did you expect?? that it would be SLOWER than windoze?? haha..

but nah seriously, how are you finding the interface of osx?? is it easy to use/navigate your way around the place

hhmm i though macrovision was the magnetic thing that stopped people from duplicating the tapes???

Yep, Macrovision is still there -- at least on most DVDs. 😡

An easy way to see, is to take your typical DVD that is "protected" by Macrovision and try to make an analog copy onto tape.

Just like a tape to tape copy, you will see the effects of the video "enhancing" Macrovision. Arg. I really hate Macrovision.

I wonder if HD-DVDs and BR still use Macrovision? Since I do not have either the media or players I cannot check. Anybody out there know?

I'm having a hard time believing that.

That's why :

1- The drive in the iMac is a slim drive, so performance will be no where as good as a fw or USB 2.0 external proper 5.25" drive.

2- Here's the biggest "ouch" :
6.14GB = 6'140MB
2 minutes and 43 seconds = 60+60+43 seconds = 163 seconds.

6140/163 : approx. 37,6 MB/s. Blue ray drives aside, no optical drive (to my knowledge) is capable of such transfer rates. With my 16X DVD-R drive, I usually top out at 20 MB/s.

But still, I'm sure the iMac is frigging fast. 🙂

Some Calculation Errors, 1GB = 1024MB not 1000MB. Applies to all, 1KB = 1024 bytes, 1MB = 1024KB, etc...

Well its still very fast! 😀
