The next big thing for Apple is AR/VR. Tim has been talking about it and hyping for about half a decade.

If rumors are accurate, a VR headset from Apple may be around the corner. The headset might even support AR as well, much like the Quest 2’s passthrough feature.

This also makes more logical sense to start with a headset verses glasses. We might not be at the stage yet for a few more years for things to be miniaturized enough to produce a meaningful lightweight AR experience.

Airtags might not ‘just’ be lost item trackers. Hard to believe such a simple device to be delayed so much. The real reason may be because it’s also a VR tracker that integrates with VR/AR.

It's VR...not AR because it isn't ready yet for prime time. The Car...who knows? Still, in the on-again, off-again phase, I surmise, just based on the rumors, probably still a long ways off...

So basically semi-retirement. Though Riccio’s replacement seems like a good choice to replace him.

Ok, something is up, I think this is all strategic. They are all working on something big: Schiller, Riccio and even Ive. I think its all a strategy to really keep the next big projects a top secret. I suspect Apple thinks there is a mole in the company and its someone near the executive level that might be leaking out stuff to people like Gurman. The plan is to create the siloed development experience on a large scale. These executives Ive, Schiller, Schiller, Mansfield are likely gonna be working together in secret on the Apple Car and Augment Reality products. The money printers: iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Services are in good hands anyway.

Once they have sorted out what they believe the Apple Car and Apple AR headset will be, then, it will be brought to the executives who will give the go ahead to start internal development, testing then the focus to reach market. Its likely gonna be a 7 to 10 year journey, which some of these executives might not see the last mile of. But they are setting the foundation for it. What you will likely see if more top executives stepping back to join.

For those of you who don’t understand how corporate politics work, let me be perfectly clear. This is a demotion. No one in his capacity and age leaves to an unspecified project like that. The industry joke is that someone gets put on photocopying duties.

It’s unspecified to those of us outside of Apple’s engineering organization. Doesn’t mean Dan doesn’t know what it is.

Mansfield is officially retired. The person who’s the SVP of AI / ML is in charge of Project Titan now.

That's Apple's way of driving major new products forward. Now I wonder what Apple might we cooking that will benefit from strong leadership in hardware development. 🤔
