After two and a half years of owning my 13" MacBook Pro, I never knew there would be a risk of damaging the HDD by movement or vibration. The worst hasn't happen yet but there have been times when I've been carrying it around while its open usually just to hook it up to a printer in another room. There were times when I may have carried my 5 year old Dell laptop around while active and weren't much problems, assuming that it was okay to because... They're portable.

No problem at all. The MBP has a sudden motion sensor that stops the hard drive from spinning when it detects motion. You'll be fine.
