Started noticing this on white and grey full colour backgrounds.

First I thought it was this blurred translucent background with the desktop shining through but it's not. It's a solid grey colour.

There's a dark horizontal area right in the middle of the screen.

It's visibility changes slightly based on the vertical viewing angle.

Anyone else noticed the same on their new MacBook Pro?

Welcome to the world that is uneven and non-uniform screens in MacBook Pros. Unfortunately the only solution if the unevenness bothers you is to exchange your laptop.

That would definitely bother me. I would exchange it. I think most if not all screens have some irregularities, but that dark gray horizontal area would be distracting to me.

Wow, that looks really bad. I've seen so many claims of uneven screens on the 2016 MacBook Pros on here, but this is the first time where I can actually see a discernible difference. Definitely exchange that, it's a defect and not just a variation in production.

Yes, I am definitely exchanging it.

Never saw this on my Retina MacBook Pro 2012.

Was wondering if this is something more people are experiencing on their 2016 model. And whether this is even considered 'normal' or 'acceptable' for these screens.

Glad to hear this is not just a variation in product. Thanks.

On medium brightness I don't really see it. On maximum brightness at first everything looks just fine. Seems like it appears after using the screen at maximum brightness for a longer period of time.

This has been an issue from at least the early 2015 retina displays. Very poor uniformity.
