I haven't changed a thing since i bought this Mac. It was turning dark automatically and light automatically but no longer does now. Night shift works but it remains dark or light unless i cycle the options in System Prefs. I've just started setting it on dark permenantly until i can figure out what broke. Any ideas?

What time does your night shift come on? For some reason it is linked to that I had the same problem. If you hover the cursor over the auto setting it should say a message along the lines of "changes based on your night shift settings" once I turned off night shift scheduled it was fine. I just turn night shift on manually now. It is a pain though.

It comes on at sunset and on at sunrise. I set it to manual and it doesn't enable dark mode still. It turns night shift on properly just fine on either setting (it shows it as on until sunrise or on until 7 AM in Notification Center)

Dark mode is only possible manually for me no matter what. It started last week and has been that way since. the dynamic wallpaper works fine, but the only way to make 'auto' dark work is to go to light mode and back to auto and it changes. it will actually go light mode properly on its own just not dark. It was 9 PM last night and it was still in light mode. night shift was on, and my dynamic wallpaper was dark.

Manual is the only way it works. Shame, it was a nice feature while it lasted.

That is strange. I'm not sure what else to suggest so might be worth contacting apple support to see what they say.

Oh I'll get used to it, I mean, when I bought the thing it didn't have an 'auto' dark mode since it ran Mojave.
