Screen does use up battery...it would make sense to have a dark mode to save some life.

Edit: also depends on what you do as well.

You mean smart invert? There is No Actual Dark Mode.
I meant, it would be great for apple to implement that actual dark mode for next update. But yeah, invert is the next best thing.

Smart invert works pretty well for many apps, the real deal breaker is web browsing, both Chrome and Safari flip out (content gets inverted, images are crapped out, etc)

Smart Invert + App Exclusion List would be outstanding.

I was just referring to the thread title when it said "Dark Mode on iPhone X vastly improves battery life", which technically there is no real dark mode. I didn't mean anything by your Post though. But as you said, invert works in certain situations.

Do you personally use invert?

I’m hoping iOS 12 will have an official dark mode , I would love it in iOS 11 but knowing Apple they’d probably save the feature to talk about in the keynote for iOS 12

The points is that it makes a difference for OLED screens (as found in many generations of Android phones - and now the iPhone X) - it makes no difference for ordinary LED phones with a backlight (e.g. all other iPhones)

Yup. At least it helps.

Just realized that "Smart Invert" eliminates the Face ID icon unlock effect when unlocking the X.

i want a dark mode that doesnt affect apps or pictures but only like menu bars and stuff like that. this video helped though because my wallpapers were using bright colors and just knowing now that dark colors help battery life is great.

If you are using Safari, reader view works great. Better than smart invert for sites that support reader view. You can assign a black background with reader view, try it out.

I knew OLED screens offered battery savings over LCD on dark backgrounds but I didn’t realize the difference was that large. Absolutely boggles the mind that Apple didn’t include a dark mode in iOS 11. Imagine the battery life the X could have if it used a predominantly dark UI!

Hopefully they include it in the next iOS update, especially with the advantages it provides to the OLED display on the X.

This would be more on developers to implement.

Apple can only add dark mode to their apps and UI not to developers.
