I tried to update 10.13.1 > 10.13.2 and after i click restart button, screen turns dark, not totally 100% black and only thing i can see is cursor and i can move it but then nothing happens. Keyboard has no effect to anything.

I have tried to install using App Store and also downloaded combo update which i launched from both internal and external SSD.

Now when Mac tries to shutdown (Energy Saver>Schedule), screen is dark and keyboard lights are on. I then have to keep power button down for long to force shutdown.

I think Mac tries to install it when it shuts down. I clicked "Install Later" in MAS.

Smells of a damaged system (files). May be you should install a complete (COMBO) bundle.
That means: the entire High Sierra all over again.
;JOOP!

Yeah, just boot into recovery partition and re-install the OS at there may be an easier to "upgrade" and possible able to fix the issue.

If you still just want an upgrade, you may go Terminal, and enter (admin password required)
Code:
sudo softwareupdate -i --all --verbose
It will also update the system.

I booted to recovery mode and when i try to run "sudo softwareupdate -ia" i get "command sudo not found". I also tried just "softwareupdate -ia" and same result. But "ping apple.com" works.

Oh, my bad, I mean run this terminal command in normal MacOS. You should see something like this.

OR go to recovery partition to re-install the OS.

But not run that command in recovery partition's terminal.

I have not yet have time to try this but i do it next.

In the case it fails i ask this:

I found this folder in root level of boot drive and it has 5 files and 1 folder which is empty:

macOS Install Data
-OSInstallAttr.plist
-minstallconfig.xml
-InstallInfo.plist
-Locked Files
-index.sproduct
-brtool

Can i simply trash this and then try normal update again?

Now i found Updates folder and manual update items has time stamp 9 Dec and all others 17 Dec:

/Library/Updates
/Library/Updates/_ManualUpdate
/Library/Updates/_ManualUpdate/_ManualUpdate.extraInfo
/Library/Updates/_ManualUpdate/macOSUpdCombo10.13.2.pkg
/Library/Updates/_ManualUpdate/_ManualUpdate.dist
/Library/Updates/ProductMetadata.plist
/Library/Updates/PPDVersions.plist
/Library/Updates/091-52053
/Library/Updates/091-52053/BridgeOSBrain.pkg
/Library/Updates/091-52053/EmbeddedOSFirmware.pkg
/Library/Updates/091-52053/macOSUpd10.13.2Patch.pkg
/Library/Updates/091-52053/FullBundleUpdate.pkg
/Library/Updates/091-52053/091-52053.English.extraInfo
/Library/Updates/091-52053/BridgeOSUpdateCustomer.pkg
/Library/Updates/091-52053/FirmwareUpdate.pkg
/Library/Updates/091-52053/091-52053.English.dist
/Library/Updates/index.plist

So should i trash /Library/Updates folder and macOS Install Data in root too??

10.13.2 is a crock
my current MacBook now crashes out for no apparent reason.
I'm going back to the original high sierra, which will involve another erase and clean install.
for goodness sake apple, you're starting to look like windoze …

I still wonder why the experiences with APPLE updates are so different between users.
I always thought that APPLE gear is uniform for everybody.
Is there a deeper cause?
