I was perusing MacRumors this morning for the first time in a while. I clicked on an article about the HomePod and Airpods. It was the HomePod topic that drew me (I’m an Echo fan). But the comments included raves of the Airpods. They had not interested me to that point.

Long story short, I stopped into the Apple store to buy a replacement Pencil (the dog ate it). On a whim, I asked the dude if they had any Airpods in stock expecting to be told no. I left with new earphones, in addition to the Pencil, expecting to return them.

I love them. They sound great to this non-audiophile and are easy and convenient. I even made an impromptu gym visit to test them out. I’ll be keeping them.

Mrs TT is also getting a pair, despite hating the wired ones that come with the phone. Despite her extreme reservations, having tried my AirPods out she found they exceeded her expectations.

AirPods are fantastic. They’re definitely a hit, 15 months in and they still go in n out of stock at stores. People are still talking about em. Homerun for Apple on these.

Better than the dog eating your homework (read: iPad Pro).

Congrats on the AirPod purchase. They truly are a fantastic product. I use them many times a day and never have a problem with them.

And while I also love my HomePod, yesterday I asked Siri to pause the music at least 8 times before it worked. That is the first time I’ve had problems with it.

Been using mine daily for the last 6 weeks or so - commuting, gym, also at home - very happy indeed. I do care about audio quality and they are great - it just isn't fashionable in audio forums to admit this. The detail and clarity they provide is fantastic, as is the level of bass which is powerful but not overwhelming. Yes they are not noise isolating but I prefer that. The volume is sufficient to block out other music and the sound of equipment in the gym. To cap it all the case is just brilliant - I charge it up weekly and have never got near my AirPods being out of power. If you get into the habit of putting them into the case at any time you are not using them you are good to go. Best Apple product since the iPhone for me - and I was very sceptical about them and didn't buy until a year after release, having read a lot of positive comments and watched some YouTube videos on them, posted by people who have used them for several months.

Congrats. While I love my AirPods for their convenience, I am not in love with their audio quality which is mediocre. But i knew this going in and had the correct expectations from the start.

Enjoy your AirPods ! I really love mine, use 'em every day. I got hooked by a colleague who made me try out his. I couldn't believe how amazing they sounded (to my very bad ears) and how well they fit to my ears, so I really had to grab a pair of those. Big home run for Apple on these, I just wish we would see more products like that.

Which do you prefer over the AirPods in terms of audio quality?

I found PowerBeats 3 to be good (if a little muffled / too sassy) but could never get the right fit despite trying several sizes of earbuds - so they wouldn't stay in place. I wear glasses and I think the hook over the ear could never sit properly. Sold them on.

I also have some AKG Y50BT headphones which have a pleasant sound - not as much punch as the AirPods - I mainly use them for long journeys and on planes as they do cut out more external noise - however I feel too hot wearing them in some weather conditions.

Ah, I know these AKGs of yours, my wife has a pair too. Pretty good according to her. I use my AirPods mostly in the office to put music on for better focus. I often have people stop by my desk for a minute and need to interrupt the playback - just taking the AirPods out does that trick and is a really nice feature.

For home I have a pair of wired AKG N20 in-ears that I really like as well as a B&W P7, also wired. Both sound really good to me.
For music (I play drums a lot) I have a pair of Bose around ears for practicing and a pair of Westone in-ear monitors that I use for concerts.

I called my husband on the way home from the mall to tell him that I just spent $160 on q-tips and he knew exactly what I was talking about. His response, “I knew one of us would cave sooner or later.”

I’m using them now to listen to Pickin’ style music as background while I do homework and my husband and fur-kid nap on the couch. (This is also the Pencil eating culprit.)

What I like about them most is I don’t realize that I have buds in my ears and the music sounds like I’m in the room with it, vs being funnelled down my ear shaft - I hope that makes sense.
