Two weeks back I got my first Mac (Mac Mini, low-end one for $499). Today, I see that the same exact one is $429!

If I return the $499 one, I get hit with a $49.90 restock fee since it has been opened. If I then buy another same refurb, after tax, I'd be saving only about $25.

Or, if I order and receive another one (but don't open it) can I return it on the original purchase? Or does Apple track the serial numbers for each order (model numbers are the same of course).

I'm pretty sure you can call and see what their price protection policy is. They've been known to let you keep the computer and refund the difference.

Apple tracks serial numbers on invoices. Check your invoice if you don't believe me.

If you have the liquidity to buy a 2nd Mini then why are you bothered by $70? I get $70 is $70 but it is not like you live under a rock and did not know there were updates coming. I mean the rumors were a bit more plausible than your standard photoshop concept ********.

Agreed...give them a call and explain that if they won't give you a refund you're willing to ship the machine back for the (approx) $20 you'd save. Worth a try at least.

I kinda figured I'd get ripped on in here :)

I called them. They said I'd have to send back the one I have, take the 10% hit, and then purchase another one. I can however take the one I have back to a local Apple store (which is between work and home) instead of paying to ship it back.

    Hmmm...

Apple is a little sketchy when new products appear. I've been around the Apple store on THE day of a new announcement where the new stuff is known,
but not in the store yet. They sold uninformed customers the old stuff without telling them.

Currently, the upgraded AEBS's are without the new descriptions (new antenna's etc)on the Apple site. So would you get the new one or the old one
    if ordered today?

But its part of the game as in nature. The weak and unknowing are consumed.

Return the machine. You'll be happier with the new one.
