Dashboard was good. The problem was, Apple quickly forgot about it and stopped any active development to improve further. Dashboard was essential abandoned.
Again, I think most people today don't know about it because Apple stopped promoting it. Everyone should go watch the rollout of OS X Tiger and WWDC from 2005. Steve Jobs spends a lot of time demoing Dashboard clearly because he loved it.

Interestingly when I opened the Stickies app in Catalina it imported all my stickies I had in the widget within dashboard. It also looks like they've massaged Stickies to look more like the original widget. I'll probably use these now as they float on top and have very similar features.

Probably somebody from the Senior Leadership team is also using stickies and filed an RFE with Craig....

So what do people do to get quick access to a calculator or a calendar (let's say I want to know what weekday "November 3rd" is), is the preferred method now to do a spotlight search for the "calendar" or "calculator" app, then open it, then close it when it's no longer needed? That seems clunkier to me than the dashboard.

Dashboard was cool back in the day when you could add little snippets of web sites.

I’m sure stoke still use it but I haven’t personally in years

itsycal for a menubar calendar and yeah, running calculator from spotlight (if you don't want it in your dock or in the notification centre).

I have no rush updating to Catalina. I only have a 2012 Mini and no iPad. So I wonder what I would actually get from Catalina that I would use vs. losing the Dashboard (that I do use).

I updated to iOS 13 on my iPhone, mainly because the latest security fix was not released for iOS12 on devices that could run iOS13. Else I would have stayed on iOS12, too.

I have two reasons I haven't updated to Catalina:

1. Loss of Dashboard
2. Loss of Adobe Master Collection CS6 (I have no need to use any newer versions for my needs and I prefer buying outright vs subscription)
