Dashboard key/mouse shortcut stops working

I have been having this problem with the dashboard key "Fn-F4" and my mighty mouse assigned button for dashboard to stop working at some point. The only way to reactivate" it is to log out and log back in again. After logging back it all is well but it will always happen a short time later. This is also happening with front row as well (starting front row fades to the usual black screen but quickly reverts back to my desktop). Any ideas? When this happens I can still open the dashboard using the dock icon but it is not as convenient.

iMac 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM, Leopard 10.5.3

Anyone else have this problem?
