I have an early 2008 iMac, I think I'm probably at the end of the line, if not already for an upgrade to 10.9.

My question is, if I buy a new iMac with 10.9 installed (when it's released), will it still be possible to migrate all my data from a 10.8 machine (using the migration assistant).

Obviously no one can tell me for sure until it's released, but has anyone migrated from Lion/Snow Leopard on an old Mac to Mountain Lion on a new Mac with no issues?

Yes, it will be no problem at all, I don't see Apple abandoning this procedure since it works well.

If history is a reliable guide, migration should work without any problems. It's worked in the past for all versions of OSX for which Migration Assistant existed. ;)

I know people who have migrated from 10.5.8 to Mountain Lion. 10.5.8 is the earliest version that the Migration Assistant will work with. I fully expect that 10.9 should be able to import from 10.5.8 as well.
