Coming from my 4S l, which I had since launch. I have never used more than 1gb in a single month on 3G. I am on wifi whenever and wherever possible (home, work, airports, hotels, etc.).

I noticed that I somehow consumed 4gb since launch on my new 6 (rec'd 9/19).

Is there background data or something else I should look for that is eating through my data?

My browsing and usage habits have not changed when going from 4s to my 6.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah something's up. Check email for stuck messages in outbox, especially if the phone says it's sent a lot of data (when compared to receiving - sent should almost always be less than received)

Next you could turn off iCloud and ActiveSync calendars and contacts (removing data from phone when prompted), reboot, turn calendars/contacts back on. That would hopefully resolve a sync loop if you have one. You should also be able to see data usage by app which might help as well.

(I've not moved to iOS8 yet, so the following is from iOS7)

What does your phone claim is using the data? Go to Settings->Cellular and scroll down to "Use Cellular Data for:" to see which apps have used what quantity of cellular data. System stuff is listed under a sub-menu at the very bottom.

Some great suggestions...

Here's what I can see (that's notable):

Safari: 572mb
Mail: 11.5mb
Pandora: 23.1mb
Exchange 212mb

I found it! Apparently running speedtest (ookla) is RIDICULOUS! It used 1.6gb!!!

Needless to say, I just turned off cellular for a lot of my apps (especially speedtest).

Again, thanks!

how often do you run speedtest? i think it's about 100mb per run
the safari looks legit since higher resolution means more data to transfer

There you go.
Just because you didn't use that much data before with the other phone it doesnt mean you didnt use it with the new one.
And that's why its useful to have that cellular tab info.
How many times did you kept checking your speed to use 1.6gb? Like 30 times a day?:D

A lot! I travelled to 3 continents already with my iPhone 6. I have been so amazed by the cellular speed, I check it everywhere. I didn't realize just how much data I wasted.

Well... That puts an end to that novelty :)
